[Recap] Free GoKL Bus Exploration Meet-Up

The GoKL bus service is a network of free bus service that runs through Kuala Lumpur provided by the local government. It’s a very convenient and useful way for visitors and local to travel around main places in Kuala Lumpur and operates from 6am to 11pm at night on weekdays, and 7am to 11pm on weekends. Today, a few members of the Malaysia Local Guides community went on the GoKL Bus Redline to visit some attractions along the way. (Photo above)

[Photo above] We had quite a few register to join, since it’s like a free outing on a free bus service. In the end, due to holiday season, 4 of us made it. We met in Kuala Lumpur Sentral, and fixed our starting point at the KL1077 Bus stop at https://goo.gl/maps/YpMSFZCMfAJgYfzRA . It was a Saturday and buses come by every 10 minutes. And each 10 minutes a huge crowd would gather waiting for the bus. We took the Redline bus. There are a total of 4 different lines.

[Photo above] Due to large crowds, we could only find standing spots in the free bus. The bus is fully air conditioned, and we were off. Our first stop was at the National Museum, which only took about under 10 minutes of bus journey. The bus stopped just in front of the National Museum at the KL1119 Bus Stop.

[Photo above] All of us attending this meetup either have not been to the museum, or have not been there for years. So it was a very good opportunity for all of us to get acquainted back with the museum. The museum opens from 9am to 6pm, and a ticket costs MYR 2 for Malaysians and MYR 5 for foreigners, which is a good bargain. We started taking a lot of photos outside.

[Photo above] The inside of the National Museum holds so many interesting exhibits from historical times up till the recent memories. We spent about 2 hours in the museum, and it was an amazing experience looking back at all the historical facts. We will be writing a separate post on the National Museum of Malaysia. We must have taken at least a few hundred photos of the exhibits.

[Photo above] After the long exploration of the museum, we got famished and took the GoKL Redline bus to Chow Kit area, where we visited the Ras Balouche Pakistan food https://goo.gl/maps/zPRR96Mzvakpdnsw7

We had naan bread with meat and vegetables, which was very tasty and worth the money. The naan was baked fresh and service was good and fast. We were happy and satiated at last after the quick lunch.

[Photo above] We boarded the GoKL redline bus again to head back to KL Sentral. And we took some time to photograph some ujpdated views of the transportation hub. We checked out the different trains and metros that passes through there.

[Picture above] There are 4 different GoKL routes, all are free and operates each 10 minutes. Today we had explored using the Redline service. Here is the MyMap for the 4 different routes for the free GoKL bus service.

A quick summary of what we feel. The bus service is good and convenient and free. And the buses are wide and clean. It’s a great service that should be used by more locals and visitors.

It was a great experience for me because this is the first time I have joined such a meetup. Although I wasn’t able to stay with you guys until the end, however, I recognized that it would be great if we arrange such as meetup in the future too.

Thank you @StephenAbraham for sharing.
