[RECAP] Discovering Berkeley Meet-Up

On September @Julien44 and me started to think about what to do the previous days to Connect Live 2019. Jul had an idea and he planned a perfect Sunday and we thought …why not shared with the LGs Community? Maybe, someone would like to join us… ( Discovering Berkeley )

Our meeting point was Powell Street station (San Francisco)

It’s great that the host can write messages to the participants and be able to make last minute changes to improve the initial plans. For example:

  • We booked an appointment at 10AM at Koret Visitor Center for a guided visit of the University. To be on time we needed to change the start time from 8:35 to to 8:15.
  • We agreed that it was better to meet at the Koret Visitor Center because not everyone was staying in San Francisco.

And the attendees were:

@ellecross : Lovely Terri from Philippines and currently living in NetherLands. She have a beatiful smile, always happy and choosed a fantastic outfit for the ocation. She was irradiating positive energy and enjoying every single moment of the meet-up.

@ValeriaA_ : georgeous LG from Argentina who captivated us with the freshness of her youth and beautiful red hair; to all this we have to add her intelligence and passion for Google Maps. Very Cosmopolitan.

@Stella2 : A Wonderful Charismatic Greek who knows how to have fun and live life!!! An inspiration to all of us. Her opinions and points of view are full of experience.

@Ayanogawa : Szu, originally from Taiwan and living in the USA for more than 15 years. She unexpectedly joined the meeting. It is an example that meet-ups are read and there are people willing to join this kind of events!!!. We were surprised with her work and knowledge in crowdsource. Some of us made interesting plans with her, isn´t it Jan?

@TorM : Torben is an incredible funny German with many many many contributions on Google Maps. He loves to add the first photos of a place. He shared us interesting tips about the kind of contributions he makes on Google Maps. He is photo specialist and won an award on CL19, congratulations!

@JanVanHaver : Jan is a computer expert, friendly, fun and eager to have fun while receiving and giving knowledge. This man is an expert in editions (he won another award in CL19) . He has an incredible podcast about the Local Guides program.. He is spreading the word in Belgium and becoming a celebrity, wuauu! ?

And he wrote** Fun Facts from the Berkeley pre-CL19 Meetup **2 weeks ago.

@Julien44 : Jul is the perfect local guide. He won another award in CL19 due to the quality of his editions by adding places. During the meet-up, he took care of us trying to make us feel comfortable and enjoying that wonderful sunny Sunday. The idea of Discovering Berkeley started from him. I am delighted to have been able to co-hosted this meet-up with you. What I like most is to do things collaboratively, thanks Jul ; ))

Let´s continue with the meet-up !

Violet, a motivated University Student, showcased us the most important places at Berkeley.

As the meet-up went on, we shared more and more confidences, tips on our type of contributions on Google Maps, our jobs … And the result was amazing: we wanted to connect, to spend time together and we agreed that we needed to changed the initial plans: visit less places and talk more : )))

We didn’t visit the Campanile because there was fog and we were advised that the views were not as amazing as without fog (we were outside).

After the guided visited we have a look at Moe’s books.
We took an Uber to go to the Urbano Cellars for a Wine Tasting . We were relax, trying the californian wines, eating and of course … having fun!
We spend more time than expected (obviously, time flies when not stop talking) so we cancelled the visit to the Tilden Park. We all agree ; ))

We realialized that Berkeley has facilities for people with reduced mobility, takes recycling into consideration and the area is full of technology!

After a wonderful day, where the weather accompanied, we retired to our respective cities.

Here is our Shared Photo Album.

Many many thanks to the fantastic Local Guides that joined the Discovering Berkeley Meet-Up, making that day unforgettable. And thank you very much to all of you who decided to read this post and be interested in our adventures.

Jul and Alejandra.

Hi @AlejandraMaria

Very nice recap, beautiful photos. Thanks a lot for writting it but to be honest, you have forgotten a few things! Jajajajaja

I must therefore reveal the truth to the community !

I couldn’t have chosen a better co-organizer. You were very kind and shared your experience and knowledge without restraint. Being with you for my first meet-up made it easy for me. Thank you very much. We know that we are good friends for goods. Muchos besos from France.

@Stella2 is an amazing traveller. All the time by a plane, she loves to discover the world and her experience in travel planning is amazing. She is also a wine lover. It was good to share time with you.

We were charmed when we met @Ayanogawa . She is so kind, sweet and fun to be with. We have all appreciated spending time with you and our only regret was that it was too short. We hope we will have a second chance to meet.

@ellecross has so much positive energy, always smiling. She is a dog lover and of course, a very good photographer. We have spent lot of time together before, during and after CL19. I am glad I have met you and I am looking forward to see you again.

What is about @ValeriaA ? She was one of the first friend I meet on Localguidesconnect.com and it was the second time we met. She is always superkind, funny and friendly. It was good to have you in the team.

We were not supposed to tell it but @TorM and I, had to fight…to take Cinema pictures. Torben is an incredible Local Guides with such a experience and he is not the last to share his knowledge. It has been higthtly appreciated. One day, Torben told me and probably to some others LG that Cinema pictures were bringing lot of views. And he is right, one of my most viewed photos is from a cinema. So Torben and I were hardly looking for a cinema and we were lucky enough to find one. Today, one of my photo is the first on Google maps and this photo has already 30K views on my profil. Thanks a lot Torben for sharing all your knowledge. You are also a nice person and you are always ready to have fun! It was great to have you in the team. Now Torben is an Indian food lover!

We had so much fun in the Bart station with @JanVanHaver teaching other people how to use the ticket machine. Especially as we had already so much difficulties to managed to get our own ticket. You are also very kind, an experienced local guides and of course famous! It was also good to spend time with you and to have you in the team.

By the way, we were having difficulties with everything in the afternoon ;-). I don’t know why and this is no important. The most important is that we had so much fun. Have a look at the video on the shared album.

Thank you everyone for joining us for this meetup. It has been an amazing day : we have discovered a new place, contributed to Google Maps and the cherry on the cake we have well connected all together. We had so much fun!

This wouldn’t have been the same without the Local Guides program, so a big THANK YOU to Google and the Local Guides team.

See you around

Jul

Hi @OmarBD !

I am totally agree with you. Connect is a fantastic platform where we interactuate and meet-ups make us know each other even better. On one side the ones that join in real life and on the other side with the Recaps, a way to share with all the community how it was and interactuate in a virtual way : )))

Greetings from the South of Spain,

Alejandra.
