On September @Julien44 and me started to think about what to do the previous days to Connect Live 2019. Jul had an idea and he planned a perfect Sunday and we thought …why not shared with the LGs Community? Maybe, someone would like to join us… ( Discovering Berkeley )
Our meeting point was Powell Street station (San Francisco)
It’s great that the host can write messages to the participants and be able to make last minute changes to improve the initial plans. For example:
- We booked an appointment at 10AM at Koret Visitor Center for a guided visit of the University. To be on time we needed to change the start time from 8:35 to to 8:15.
- We agreed that it was better to meet at the Koret Visitor Center because not everyone was staying in San Francisco.
And the attendees were:
@ellecross : Lovely Terri from Philippines and currently living in NetherLands. She have a beatiful smile, always happy and choosed a fantastic outfit for the ocation. She was irradiating positive energy and enjoying every single moment of the meet-up.
@ValeriaA_ : georgeous LG from Argentina who captivated us with the freshness of her youth and beautiful red hair; to all this we have to add her intelligence and passion for Google Maps. Very Cosmopolitan.
@Stella2 : A Wonderful Charismatic Greek who knows how to have fun and live life!!! An inspiration to all of us. Her opinions and points of view are full of experience.
@Ayanogawa : Szu, originally from Taiwan and living in the USA for more than 15 years. She unexpectedly joined the meeting. It is an example that meet-ups are read and there are people willing to join this kind of events!!!. We were surprised with her work and knowledge in crowdsource. Some of us made interesting plans with her, isn´t it Jan?
@TorM : Torben is an incredible funny German with many many many contributions on Google Maps. He loves to add the first photos of a place. He shared us interesting tips about the kind of contributions he makes on Google Maps. He is photo specialist and won an award on CL19, congratulations!
@JanVanHaver : Jan is a computer expert, friendly, fun and eager to have fun while receiving and giving knowledge. This man is an expert in editions (he won another award in CL19) . He has an incredible podcast about the Local Guides program.. He is spreading the word in Belgium and becoming a celebrity, wuauu! ?
And he wrote** Fun Facts from the Berkeley pre-CL19 Meetup **2 weeks ago.
@Julien44 : Jul is the perfect local guide. He won another award in CL19 due to the quality of his editions by adding places. During the meet-up, he took care of us trying to make us feel comfortable and enjoying that wonderful sunny Sunday. The idea of Discovering Berkeley started from him. I am delighted to have been able to co-hosted this meet-up with you. What I like most is to do things collaboratively, thanks Jul ; ))
Let´s continue with the meet-up !
Violet, a motivated University Student, showcased us the most important places at Berkeley.
As the meet-up went on, we shared more and more confidences, tips on our type of contributions on Google Maps, our jobs … And the result was amazing: we wanted to connect, to spend time together and we agreed that we needed to changed the initial plans: visit less places and talk more : )))
We didn’t visit the Campanile because there was fog and we were advised that the views were not as amazing as without fog (we were outside).
After the guided visited we have a look at Moe’s books.
We took an Uber to go to the Urbano Cellars for a Wine Tasting . We were relax, trying the californian wines, eating and of course … having fun!
We spend more time than expected (obviously, time flies when not stop talking) so we cancelled the visit to the Tilden Park. We all agree ; ))
We realialized that Berkeley has facilities for people with reduced mobility, takes recycling into consideration and the area is full of technology!
After a wonderful day, where the weather accompanied, we retired to our respective cities.
Here is our Shared Photo Album.
Many many thanks to the fantastic Local Guides that joined the Discovering Berkeley Meet-Up, making that day unforgettable. And thank you very much to all of you who decided to read this post and be interested in our adventures.
Jul and Alejandra.
