Hello, Local Guides,
I want to wish Happy Bengali New Year to all again to the whole Local Guides family.
On 11th April I submitted a Meet-up titled “এসো মাতি বর্ষবরণে (বাংলা ১৪৩০ বর্ষবরণ মিটআপ)” for Bengali New Year celebration. Subsequently the Meet-up was approved. We invited more local guides to join the celebration. The meet-up was organized on a short and limited scale due to the ongoing holy month of Ramadan in Bangladesh. The host ( @SanjayBDLG ) and Bisnu Modhu ( @Bishnu_Modhu ) joined the meet-up.
On the occasion of Bengali New Year celebrations, I posted an article titled ‘Celebration Bengali New Year’ on April 14th. Hope you have seen it. DeniGu also wrote an essay on Bengali New Year. I am briefly explaining what Bengali New Year or Pahela Boishakh is and its activities.
Pahela Boishakh (the first day of Bengali calendar i.e. Bangabd) is a universal folk festival of Bengali. On this day, the new year is welcomed in a joyful atmosphere. When Pahela Boishakh comes, the traditional scenes of entertaining each other with sweets, paying the merchant, opening the halkhata (new ledger) take place. We celebrate Bengali New Year with various events including Boishakhi Fair. Its cultural scope is vast. It started from the village but now it has become an integral part of the civic life. There were various New Year celebrations all over the country including the capital. To celebrate ‘Bangla New Year 1430’ in a grand manner, the government had taken a massive program at the national level. Fine Arts Faculty of Dhaka University organized ‘Mangal Shobhayatra’ (Mars procession). In 1989, the first Mangal Shobhayatra was organized by the Fine Arts Institute of Dhaka University. On November 30, 2016, UNESCO gave the procession the status of World Cultural Heritage. Chhaynat has organized a cultural program at Ramna Botmul (Under the banyan tree) this morning. Dhaka University celebrated the day with various programs throughout the day. Other cultural organizations including Rishij artist group celebrated the Bengali New Year with due dignity. Bangla Academy and Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) organized Boishakhi fair and cultural program at Bangla Academy premises.
As per schedule I entered at 7.00 AM at Ramna Botmul. There I enjoyed music programs organized by Chhayanot. In between the ensemble songs, there were solo songs and recitations by prominent artistes. After that, I arrived at Shahbag intersection at 7:30 in the morning. I entered the Fine Arts premises at 8.00 AM. Observe the various activities there. At 9.00 AM I enjoyed the Mangal Shobhayatra and watched the program of Dhaka University. At 10.00 AM I went to the Boishakhi fair organized at Bangla Academy. Our meet-up ended at 11.00 AM.

Last Word
Pahela Boishakh inspires us to avoid all narrowness and ugliness and build a liberal life-system. It removes all the maladies and weariness in our mind and gives us the inspiration to live with new zeal. We are Bengalis, a proud nation in the heart of the world, this sense of patriotism and Bengaliness in us is revived and energized on the first Boishakh. On the other hand, Pahela Boishakh is a universal folk festival of Bengali.
On this day, the new year is welcomed in a joyful atmosphere. New Year is a symbol of prosperity and new life. New Year is celebrated to forget the sorrow of past mistakes and failures and wish for happiness, peace and prosperity.
Lastly, I thank to MahabubMunna, the architect and founder of Bangladesh Local Guide (BDLG) and all other members of BDLG to give me the opportunity to host a meet-up.
Greetings and see you at the next Meetup….
Happy tourism!

![Photo 6: A Bengali New Year 1430 procession (Mangal Sobhayatra) was held in colorful attire. The procession started at 9 am from Dhaka University (DU) Fine Arts. The procession took a turn at Shahbagh and ended again at the same place. In the procession, there were many symbolic presentations of the history and tradition of modern Bengal along with the recent events. The theme of this year's Mangal Sobhayatra was 'Barish Dhara Majhe Shantir Bari' taken from Rabindranath Tagore's song.
