This was my second hosting of a Google Local Guide meet-up. Held the first one last year in Colombo Harbor, but couldn’t finish it because of the massive area of the Harbour premises. So I thought of finishing in a second run. @Miyuru was to host it but my daughter had a critical accident on the meet-up day, so we had to cancel it. It took some time to re-organize.
I went to the location 15 mins before the actual agreed time. Informed relevant parties and waited until others to arrive. Miyuru came sharp at 4.00pm. He was so helpful in planning this and he already knew what to do. Waited a few minutes to see if anyone of the 10 participants who had enrolled would show up. Alas, no one else came. ?
Miyuru and I already discussed the points of interests and he had prepared a nice list.
Pre-Planned places of interest
So we two thought we should first try to add the duty-free shops in the PassengerTerminal since it would help more people/travellers who are coming to Port on passenger cruise ships. However, most of the shops were closed because there were no ships berthed that day.
Suddenly @IlankovanT called me and stated that he was planning to come but wouldn’t be able to make it due to heavy traffic. And asked me to go live on Sri Lankan Local Guides facebook group.
We covered all the points of interest and took a lot of pics. End of Breakwaters was very calm and quiet with beautiful sceneries. Too bad we didn’t have our DSLRs. @IlankovanT @AnuradhaP , you should have been there to take some awesome clicks.
We concluded our meet-up after about 2.5hrs & 25km+ of driving. Actually, this was rather a Geo Drive than a Geo Walk ?
