I submitted an announcement the day before, being excited of what was to come. It would be my first Google Meet Up, both to attend and host, on Friday 12 April 2019 at 9.30am in the City of Bunbury, Western Australia.
Being a newbie and with consideration of the city we were venturing, I didn’t want a large group walking through the city with frequent stops taking photos, so had marked for a maximum of 10 people. Surprising to me that all 10 spots were booked.
As marked on the ‘Meet Up’ I was meeting anyone wanting to join in at the ANZAC Memorial in Bunbury CBD for a Photo Walk.
The link for the invite can be found at -
I was glad I invited a couple of friends to join with me as otherwise I would have been a lone ranger walking through the city at that time snapping pics.
We moved to the shade of the ANZAC Memorial waiting for any other potential attendees to join whilst I shared my intention of what I wanted to capture through the day. A quick video to say hello as we waited, there were many cars moving through the round-about at that spot.
Although a few people scattered walking around, I think of the many people who would be gathered at that point in a couple of weeks for the dawn service of ANZAC Day, 25 April as they remember Australian and New Zealand soldiers that served and died in wars.
With no other attendees, we begin the walk on the opposite side of our meeting place at Australia Post where physical articles can be delivered or collected.
A mark of locality is spotted on the roadside bins.
Followed shortly by a sculpture of Lord Forrest, Baron of Bunbury, Explorer and Statesman.
I introduced the girls to the Exeloo where I showed the unique toilet facility where it’s operated with a touch of a button, from opening / closing of the door, self-cleaning feature to music playing.
As I found the toilets in need of a service, we later wandered into the Bunbury City Council office in the block next door to report this, after wandering through the council gardens. Showing Bunbury residency, getting to walk out with the compost bags for use in our homes.
Many venues were photographed along our walk that morning and some are as follows:
Amongst other things captured on the journey were the street art …
… street signs, bus stop, the nature …
… cappuccino strip (some welcoming pets), spots for busking …
… church in the city, roadside parking, larger venue for car parking (including designated spots for those with special permits for people with disability …
… phone booth available and viewing historical buildings along the way.
As intended on the photo walk, we moved on to the Marlston Hill area to view the indigenous language of the area where we visited the Noongar Boodjar Language Centre. (www.noongarboodjar.com.au)
Now for a decision of a meal. Which cuisine would it be? Thai, Japanese, Chinese, Texas Steakhouse or café?
Selection made and placed on the central lazy susan on the table, we enjoyed a shared lunch together with another friend (Peiru) coming along to join us for the finale at the Happy Dim Sim House Chinese Restaurant.
It was an enjoyable day together. Thank you to Katherine and Widi for joining me on this Photo Walk and my first Google event.
