On January 26th 2020, the Cameroon Local Guides community visited Bonabéri. It was an occasion for us to go for a Geo-walk in this neighborhood located on the western side of Douala town across the Wouri River.
Douala is usually very hot and sunny in January since it’s around summer time. We made the choice to start our meetup at 3 pm to avoid the burning midday sun. A good number of us arrived at the meetup point on time while others joined us as we started our geo-walk. @Lily_Asongfac , @Blaise and @Samuel arrived first at the meeting point, Rond Point Bonassama and start taking some pictures.
As a tradition during all our meetups, we started with a little welcoming session to introduce ourselves to each other attending, so as to get knows each other, to validate our itinerary and share some safety and security info to avoid any bad circumstance that could affect our meetup.
After the intro, we started walking while:
- Taking pictures of existing places in Google Maps.
- Taking street views pictures.
- Adding missing places on Google Maps
- Correcting wrong information’s such as names, position, telephone numbers…
- Correcting spams such as wrong pictures of the places…
During our walk, we had the chance to talk with some business owner about what we were doing. Some of them allow us to enter in their shops while others, were a little reluctant.
Two and half hours after the beginning of our Geo-Walk, we were all tired and so decided to stopped and go for refreshment to end our meet-up. We chose to go to Oasis Snack Bar were we could enjoyed the #SunSet view as this time was matching with Golden hour.
The need to prepare documents in order to legalize our community to the Cameroonian Administration was mentioned during our end up session. I made a commitment to prepare and submit a draft as earlier as possible. I also encouraged the LGs to organize meet-ups too and I invited them to log in to connect where they can find many informations and great tips on how to host a meet-up.
Find in our You-Tube Channel our meet-up video. Thank to @MJ237 who took time to realized this for us. On Facebook, On Instagram and On WhatsApp
