[RECAP] Beer, Chips and Friends - Virtual Meetup

:musical_note: :notes: The background song chosen for reading this post today is THIS :muscle: :sunglasses: . (ehi @Julien44 what do you think about it?) :musical_note: :notes:

BEER, CHIPS AND FRIENDS … What’s better in the world?

Especially now that many of us are forced to stay at home because of the security measures adopted due to the Coronavirus pandemic, it is always nice to be able to talk and drink a beer in the company of other Local Guides.

This makes us feel united despite the great physical distances that separate us. From Italy to Brazil, from Belgium to India, from Greece to Canada. The people who participated in this meetup come from various parts of the world. I didn’t expect all of this for my FIRST VIRTUAL MEETUP!

Seeing all these people and being able to talk about various issues was truly amazing and fun!

I must really thank my friend @AlexandreCampbell wholeheartedly for the support he has given me in organizing this event. He supported me in using the Google Meet application, testing it before the start of the Meetup … thank you very much brother!

But who missed this long and fun Meetup (More than 5 hours of fun and discussions … is it a record?) Will surely want to know in detail what happened!

Well:

- At 20:00 (Italian time) the participants began to join the videochat through an invitation to the Google Meet link, greeting the others and introducing themselves even if many of us already knew each other.

- After that everyone showed in front of the camera the drinks and snacks chosen for this event with a beautiful diversity of choice and brands. I have to say that the choices of @AlexandreCampbell fried cassava/manioc (it’s correct?) and a type of beer I didn’t know about, and also the choice of @Stella2 with a beautiful colored plate with feta and other snacks, together with his Greek beer, they impressed me a lot! Very good guys!

- Subsequently the participants of the event, between a sip of beer and some funny joke, discussed some important questions such as:

  1. Do you think humanity can improve and learn something from this emergency situation?
  2. Are you thinking of changing your future plans after the situation clears up?
  3. How could Google and Local Guides can help people recover from the economic crisis caused by the virus?

This gave everyone the opportunity to discuss the world emergency that we are experiencing, also explaining what the situation is for those who work from home and for those who cannot work from home.

- The discussion also continued with a question proposed by me: how do you see the situation in October for Connect Live 2020? A question that gathered most of the participants who thanks to the fantastic experience at CL19 have the great desire to meet again at this year’s event … but most of the participants in the meetup agreed that due to the virus the event could be postponed.

- A very emotional moment occurred when many participants in the Meetup proudly showed their bracelets obtained during the Connect Live 2019 event … a sign of how much this event has left an important and exciting sign in every single person!

- After the last discussion and funny jokes of all these issues and the many hours spent connected all together, the Local Guides slowly started to disconnect until there are only a few of us, the**“Irreducible”**

It was a long and fun meetup, completely beyond expectation. I never thought that my first event could be so beautiful. In fact many of the participants immediately asked me to organize a “Beer, Chips and Friend - Episode 2”! :joy: :joy: Thanks a lot to all the guys who attended, @DianaTuaty @pacomorett @Stphn @OSAMA @nicspelgatti @RogerOhayashi @anu7spice and the others, you are fantastic!

I apologize to those who failed to join us due to the non-arrival of the notification created via the announcements on the Meetup page! Sorry guys!

I hope I haven’t forgotten any important event that happened during the Meetup … but hey if I forgot something, can you tell us about it below in the comments? :+1:

If you think something in this Meetup could be improved or changed, please let me know below in the comments. Thank you!

I hope this will improve an upcoming edition of this event to stay united even in dark times like these!

BYE AND STAY SAFE FRIEND! #LOCALGUIDESCONNECT

Thank you so much for this meetup, @Matt95Bassett . It was finally an excuse to dress after 5 weeks staying at home, and I laughed more than all of those days in the past 5 weeks combined! :joy:

It was great seeing so many friends back from Connect Live 2019, talking like the event just happened yesterday. (it feels like that though!)

My favourite moment was the discovery that everyone was wearing their Wanderer bracelet still. Goosebumps!

Please, organise another meetup, this was absolute fun! Great job!

Here are some of my pictures:

It was really good to see so many faces! I think drinking beer helped us to reach those philosophical questions about the situation and future. I hope to have another meet up to discuss it and have different opinions.

Thanks for organizing it. It was really good to see you again.

I wish we can see in person again in future.

@RogerOhayashi hey friend, it was really nice to see you even if behind a screen! Yes you are right, beer has certainly helped and stimulated the conversation even of sad topics such as those related to the virus. I hope to see you again at another meetup but above all I hope to see you in person on a trip to your beautiful country to be able to explore it! :sunglasses: :+1:

This meet up definitely made my week! It was so good to spend time with you all and have a great talk. I felt like we were together at a bar!

We should definitely do a second edition, I find it a great idea to steam off and forget about the situation we’re facing and just have fun with friends.

Love you and miss you so much! You all are amazing!

@Matt95Bassett Thank you for having hosted the most extended meetup ever, lol. It was a great pleasure to have a beer with you and such great friends. Let’s do it more times! Cheers!

P.S.: My beer was a Lager Beer from Ribeirão Preto, a city in state of Sao Paulo. The brand is “Colorado”

Awesome picture @LuigiZ !

I actually had no idea what was happening, because I did not figure out the splitted grid yet, and I could not see @Hyperbunny .

Thank you my friend @Matt95Bassett , my pleasure … and I wanted to come back as well but I had to solve a technical IT problem LOL  .

Did @nicspelgatti come back again, with limoncello ?!? Ah btw I see he just created a meetup for that … curious about it, one bottle for me please, you know it already :joy: .

Thank you @Stphn , yes it was so fun. Agree that a grid view is a must when you have multiple people because you will miss also if someone is showing something in the camera but not talking, like when we were showing all together our beers. Hope Google will implement it by default into Hangout / Meet :kissing_closed_eyes: .
