[RECAP] Bangkok LG Coffee Meet-Up

Recap time!

As far as I’m aware, it’s been a while since there has been a meet-up in Bangkok, so, I thought it was a great opportunity to make one happen during the Songkran (New Year) long holiday weekend – which is still on right now, as I’m writing this!

Given the holiday period, only one person (Pear) joined us, and we met up at the Starbucks Reserve right in the middle of downtown Bangkok. This branch is perhaps one of the most elegant branches I’ve seen in Bangkok, decked with 3 floors (I enjoy going to a lot of coffee shops around town to study), but it was completely packed with laptop warriors, tourists and tired travelers the whole time, so we ended up switching over to a different Starbucks branch that was quite nice.

We had a light, pleasant chat and got to talking about the hot topic that Local Guides Connect is (so hot), among other Google Maps topics as local guides. It seems that the Local Guide program is not well known at all among the locals here, and local guides are more prevalent among the tourists and expats living in Bangkok. If you browse through the photos or reviews on places of interest in Bangkok, you can see that most of the contributors are non-Thai. (However, restaurant and cafe owners do seem to care about having their places registered on Google Maps.)

Anyways, I was excited to meet a local guide outside Connect (real life!) and showed my appreciation by sharing some of the goodies I received from Connect Live 2018 last year – as expected, the LG marker luggage/baggage tag was Pear’s favorite!

Hopefully, we can continue to hold more meet-ups in Bangkok and get more people involved on a consistent basis.

Thanks for reading, and please let us know if you have any tips or suggestions on how to get a more vibrant Bangkok LG community!
