♿ [RECAP] #AccessibleBengal-09-Children School: Teli Gachha Primary School, Nadia

Pic- me (LG @PritishB) holding the #AccessibleBengal sticker and in the background the Primary School campus is visible

Hello everyone,

This is the Recap post of the Accessibility meetup #AccessibleBengal-09-Children School: Teli Gachha Primary School, Nadia. This meetup was a part of #AccessibleBengal, an initiative by West Bengal Local Guides (WBLG) to update the Accessibility status of various places of West Bengal on Google maps.

During this meet-up, the Children Primary school was visited and the following were checked-

  • Check the availability of wheelchair accessible entrance
  • Check the availability of the accessible toilet and mid-day meal facility
  • Check the availability of handrail

About the above-mentioned points, here are some images with a wheelchair-accessible icon :wheelchair: with :heavy_check_mark: marking for passedand :x: marking for failed.

:arrow_right: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, schools are closed since April 2020; and due to unavailability of maintenance, bushes were everywhere around the school campus, ramps.

Main entrance to school campus from the road-

Pic- there is no separate boundary of the school campus. Usually, people use the marked way as entrance from the road. There is no separate concrete road for movement of wheelchair. It will be difficult for movement of wheelchair.

Classroom building-

Pic- ramp with handrailing available to the classroom building. But there is bushes in the way to the ramp, due to lack of maintenance, due to lockdown, and closure of the school. When the campus is clean during normal times, the entrance to ramps are clean. So, This ramp has been marked as wheelchair passed :wheelchair: :heavy_check_mark:

Another view of the ramp with handrailing is available. But there is bushes in the way to the ramp, due to lack of maintenance, due to lockdown, and closure of the school. When the campus is clean during normal times, the entrance to ramps are clean. So, This ramp has been marked as wheelchair passed :wheelchair: :heavy_check_mark:

Towards toilet and Mid-Day meal building-

Pic- The presence of low height washbasin makes it wheelchair user friendly besides the toilet

Picture- Red Spinach cultivation is going on just near the school. Photo was taken when I was going towards the school for the meetup.

Thank you for reading the post. This meetup is also a part of Accessibility for all.

Stay safe and happy.

Have a great day!

Happy to hear that you successfully completed the Accessibility meetup, dear @PritishB

Of course, being unused for more than 1.5 years, the bushes are expectable.

You are doing a great job - appreciate it…

As rightly mentioned by our @Shrut19 - “Keep continuing” -

Our best wishes.

Regards

Congratulations on completing another accessibility meetup @PritishB

The pictures are perfect but the condition of the school is not good.

In my opinion, you may mark some of the places as not accessible since it is not actually accessible even if a ramp is constructed.

Nice post and congratulations on this successful meet-up @PritishB Dada. You did a great job indeed.we are learning a lot of things from you from each of your meet-ups. Go ahead with your great work like this and inspire us this way. I agree with @TusharSuradkar Dada, I think some places should not mark as accessible especially the main entrance, it is a soil road and not easy to go through by a wheelchair. 2nd point, we should be more selective about the venue.

Congratulations @PritishB for successful meet-up.

When I see the picture then think that “is this place absolutely accessible?” (details mentioned by @MukulR and @TusharSuradkar ). Here is one point, probably entire school was wheelchair accessible and almost 2 years no used that’s why not properly accessible.

Question:

Red spinach field is belonging to School authority and how far from the school ?

That is right @KalyanPal

The entire place is accessible - just needs a little cleanup.

Only picture #2 is not accessible even after cleaning up.

Dear @TusharSuradkar , @NareshDarji and @MukulR , as per your suggestions I have edited the accessibility status of the main entrance from the road to the school through the rough mud way. Check once accordingly.

Stay safe and happy.
