[RECAP] - Accessible Pune Episode 24 - Varsiddhi Vinayak Temple

Lockdown 2.0 in Pune has ended and places of worship have opened. Although they were open all the time, people are increasingly visiting Temples, Churches, Gurudwaras, and Mosques in Pune.

This was my second accessibility meetup after relocating to Pune and overall 24th Accessibility meetup having conducted 22 meetups previously 11 each in Gurugram and Delhi. The meetup invite was published on AllEvents.IN and the location was the Sri VarSiddhi Vinayak Temple in Dhayari, Pune.

About the Temple:

Read a detailed informative article about the VarSiddhi Vinayak Temple.

During the meetup, the following were checked:

  1. Check the accessibility of the main entrance.
  2. Check the availability of ramps at various places.
  3. Check the accessibility of the washroom/toilet.
  4. Check the accessibility of the parking space.
  5. Availability of wheelchairs.

Here are my findings in detail with the pictures:

1. Check the accessibility of the main entrance.

The main entrance has a nice large ramp from the main road up to the temple to facilitate a wheelchair comfortably.

2. Check the availability of ramps at various places.

Another ramp leads to the Parikrama Marg though it does not allow a path to the GarbhGruha section of the temple.

The front side access to the SabhMandap hall has handrails to assist those with limited mobility.

3. Check the accessibility of the washroom/toilet.

There were no public toilets or washrooms for the temple so the accessibility check was not performed.

4. Check the accessibility of the parking space.

The free parking is neatly leveled with the road.

and also has a ramp that leads to the temple premises.

5. Availability of wheelchairs.

I did not notice any wheelchairs on offer to the devotees so it implies visitors have to bring their own wheelchairs.

Overall Impression

The accessibility features at the temple were very impressive for the devotees.

This meetup was part of the Accessibility for All initiative built collectively by the host and Accessibility Champions in India including @KalyanPal and @PritishB
