Hello Lgs, Who else can give you the biggest opportunity to make difference and create awareness on ‘Importance of Wheel Chair accessiblity’ except our own Local Guide progam?
Firstly, I would like to express my gratitude to our Local Guides Community, and I think that this gratefulness, to change a normal, run of a mill person into a changed, thought provoking person in real, will never end.
After the experiencing the great ‘‘Accessibe Maps with Accessibility champions’’, Jane Burinina & Me decided to carry forward this intitiave; the Sequel (Virtual Accessibility Meetups) to maximise our knowledge to all of the people out there. Before the whole rendition of the world came to a halt, we arranged several Accessibility walks and meetups in which we tried our best to acknowledge attendees about Contributions on Google maps for the people with different abilities.
We started with short introduction, there were 28 LGs from 17 different countries, so the introduction didn’t took so much time.
After introduction meetup Co host @JaneBurunina started slides and I spoke about how everyone’s Contributions on Google maps can be useful for the people with different abilities.
We are not professionals, but we still tried our best to pass the most accurate information to our friends who were keen to learn more about Accessibility.
We croped this video from meetup full video, to make it beneficial to other people too who will read this recap and will watch this video
After presentation we had time for open discussion and questions/answers which was really great time for all, because not only new Contributors was learning by this, but this session become the great reason for two new great ideas by Local guides who post thier ideas after this meetup.
@ravindus
Accessibility - Dedicated Photo Category & a Review Sort
In his idea he want to Introduce a sub photo category called “Accessibility” within the Photos tab, which is dedicated for Accessibility features. And he also shared ideas about Introducing a sort criterion in reviews so that reviews with accessibility information to come on top.
@MSulaiman
Enhance Accessibility Options :
In his idea, he suggested about automatic doors & Bell or Lights option on Google maps for differently abled people. He suggest that Google maps should include questions & answers about this category and should include in uncovered missing information section.
These ideas are great out come of our Accessibility Meetup.
Q & A Session :
In questions and answers session @StephenAbraham and @Jesi answered many questions by meetup attendees with thier great expertise in Google maps and Accessibility . Then, @TheRealKristin expressed her great knowledge and highlighted some features of Google maps attendees which was about Accessibility. Not to forget, @uavalentine who summurized Accessibility Contributions aptly. @SaifIS gave his great feedback about Accessibility issues in Bangladesh.
Alpha asked about Google maps lists, and me & Jane explained about it. @Ale_003 , @Shrut19 , Falguni, & Riya Mathews attended any Accessibility meetup very first time, and they were happy as other attendees that they got new knowledge.
This meetup was not only discussion about Accessibility, but became a great knowledge sharing meetup and every attendee showed thier enthusiasm , shared thier knowledge and creativity . The knowledge on Ideas Exchange are the prove of the productive virtual Accessibility meetup.
I would like to Thanks our meetup attendees specially Stephen Abraham & Jesi who took out some time and shared their best knowledge with us.
