As a part of the WAW (Worldwide Accessibility Walk) , I hosted the Accessible London WAW meet-up in London which mainly focused on adding information about accessibility on Maps in a very special week, being close to the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. This meet-up was also a part of #mapsforall series 2021 (which focuses on helping local businesses, map Accessibility information, learn, share tips & do fun Map edits to reflect Inclusivity for all).
The meetup starting point was the Burgess Parkentrance. This is a huge park stretched across 56 acres of greenery in London. The park is fully accessible with lots of accessible features whose information can be added to Maps. The meet-up ended at the Domino pizza local store because I was hungry after the walk and yes to support the local business too
Here is the Accessible** London WAW Walk Map** for this meet-up which contains the тАШLondon WAW 2021 walk meet-upтАЩ walking route and the points which I found were accessible and their information needed to be updated on Maps. It simply shows my walking journey with the photos to let you know how the place looks.
Here is a quick recap of things done at the meet-up :
- Click and upload photos and videos
- Answer question /answers and do Map edits
- Add Accessibility information in reviews on Maps
- Update the Maps list to include тАШBurgess ParkтАЩ in the Maps list.
- Walk , walk , walk and help a local business by not only eating there but also updating their Maps profile by adding reviews, photos and ratings !
The pizza shop where I went did not have an accessible entrance, so I got a good opportunity to talk to the shop staff and explain the importance of it and how it would enhance their business !
I really enjoyed the meet-up as I got to support the noble cause I love contributing towards - Accessibility , had an amazing walk (took all the required safety measures before going out !) and got a chance to enjoy my favourite pizza and talk to the shop owner and explain to him how adding an accessibility ramp to his shop entrance can boost his business !
Congratulations to everyone who hosted WAW walks around the globe and thank you for supporting this cause using Maps !
