“Incluir duas linhas adicionais sobre a acessibilidade nas suas avaliações do Google Maps e fazer upload de fotos relacionadas ao assunto será uma grande contribuição e o melhor guia para pessoas com habilidades diferentes.”
- Jane Burunina, KashifMisidia-
Hello Local Guides,
Accessible Brazil Virtual Meet-up was our 7th continues meet-up regarding Accessibility Contributions on Google maps, in which we met some new great friends from many countries and especially friends from Brazil andPortugal
.
As Usual, I and Jane Burunina first introduced ourselves, and we explained the purpose of the meet-up which was nothing else but to create awareness about Accessibility contributions in Maximum people as we can
For this meet-up, all the help and support which we got by @AlexandreCampbell , who was attending the third meet-up of this series of meet-ups, was really extraordinary, with his great knowledge about Accessibility. A Big thanks to him
After the introduction, Jane Burunina Started Slides and we invite Our friend Alexandre Campbell to explain how we can be helpful for people with different abilities by our Google Maps Contributions? This time we include contributions of Alexandre, @Patriciapraca , and @SarahKa in our presentation.
Alexandre presented in "Portuguese" to make it more understandable, some examples of How to contribute to Google Maps, based on the presentation created by Jane and me from their contributions.
He explained some of his reviews regarding accessibility (both in cases where accessibility is available and unavailable) and replicated our slogan about the importance of adding “two lines.”
While when we were speaking in English, Alexandre Campbell summarized the content on the chat box. It allowed attendees who don’t speak English to follow the presentation. He also translated some questions from "Portuguese" to "English" to allow the interaction between everybody and answered questions in "Portuguese".
He invited Sarah Kasowicz, from Belo Horizonte, Brazil, and Patricia Praca, from Madeira Island Portugal, to talk in "Portuguese" about their reviews.
One of the reviews shown by Alexandre was in the Museum of Tomorrow, Rio de Janeiro , where it is a place accessible not only for wheelchair users but for visually impaired and people with hearing disabilities.
It was a point discussed by the Brazilian attendees: “The importance of not only adding information about mobility but also related to other disabilities.”
He explained other reviews too about places where accessibility is unavailable, like a Hotel in San Francisco, where he stated: "it was a good place, but not accessible at all."
Sarah Kasowicz explained some of her reviews and said that she never gives a five stars rating for a place that is not accessible. She remembered that it’s crucial to take photos of the accessibility signs of the sites, as well as be careful and check if you are uploading a picture of the correct place. "It’s, of course, mandatory for everyone, but if you submit a photo of the wrong place, you can prejudice a person who needs to know how this place is before a visit."
Patrícia Praca explained that most Business and Public places in Portugal are accessible since there is a law enforcing it. She explained that in her reviews and photos, she tries to pay attention not only if a place has an accessible entrance, but also if it has accessible seats and bathroom. She also shared her experience with an Accessibility Walk in Madeira Island, where she got together a lot of people.
Alexandre shared his experience that he had An accessibility walk in Volta Redonda, RJ, Brazil only with a Local Guide, who is his friend. Further, he said
“Still, the most important is that regardless of the number of attendees, you can make a difference in updating information on Google Maps.”
It was our 7th meet-up, and again we learned some new things, as always we said to participants of our all meet-ups, that the purpose of the meet-up is not to educate you, actually, we want to learn more from you.
And really it’s true. Like in every meet-up we learn from our friends from Brazil and Portugal that how they contribute to Accessibility with all their sincerity and dedication.
Even most parts of the meet-up were in "Portuguese", but our friends were there again to support us, I would like to say special thanks to them.
