[Recap]Accessible Biratnagar - Help differently abled people through technology.

As part of the #OneAccessibility, Accessible Biratnagar meet up was concluded on 3rd December 2019 @ International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

As I was only the one to show up, I started from our meetup point;Koshi Zonal Hospital). I added some of the department that were missing on Google Maps and answered the accessibility questions as well.

After the government hospital I visited some of the nearby private hospital and answered the accessibility questions and took some the snaps as well related to accessibility.

After completing the hospital area, I moved to the nearby government offices and private offices to check their accessibility status.

Summary @ Accessible Status:

  1. There are ramps for the wheelchair but aren’t of use independently; need help of others to use those ramps as they aren’t made following the universal standard (steep ramps)

  2. Some of the building have accessible ground floor but not the other floor as ramps or lift aren’t in the building.

  3. Of all the buildings only one hospital have accessible floors through the lift but have some obstruction like security gate railing.

  1. Of all, none of the buildings have accessible toilets.

@MadanKPradhan congratulations for this fantastic meetup. Doing it alone is not easy but that’s how super local guides do.

It’s interesting to see the ramp, elevator and wheelchair at the hospital. This is a good sign because it tells us that some people are conscious of accessibility even if they do not have the resources to provide such facilities according to international standard. By engaging them, they will see the need to provide such subsequently.

Thank you for adding these useful information to the Google Maps and helping people with special needs.
