♿[RECAP] Accessible Bangladesh, Part: 13 (Mirpur 11 Bus Stand Area)

As a part of my Accessibility goals in 2022, I hosted a meet-up on 8th January 2022 in Mirpur 11 Bus Stand area. This is one of the busiest areas in Dhaka City. From this point, you can move in every direction inside or outside of Dhaka. It has become a transit hub in Dhaka. There are many commercial buildings, shopping malls, hospitals, and other POIs here. In this meet-up Accessibility Champion @AbdullahAM joined me from the beginning, after some time another prominent local guide of Bangladesh @Designer_Biswajit joined us who was followed by @Atikhadi91.

This type of Tactile footpath is available everywhere in Mirpur 11 Bus stand area.

During this meet-up we checked the below points:

  1. We checked Wheelchair Accessible parking and entrance.
  2. We checked the Wheelchair Accessible ramps (if any).
  3. We checked the availability of wheelchair-accessible toilets/restrooms there
  4. We checked the other accessibility features found there.
  5. A discussion session was also there on the importance of Accessibility during the entire meet-up.

This convention center is situated inside a government building. We checked very carefully and unfortunately, did not find any ramp or other accessibility features.

At the end of this meet-up, we ate some Pitha (traditional Cake) in Guddu Mamar Pitha Shop, and later we took tea in Rabbani Hotel. During this time we discussed our future plans about accessibility in Bangladesh. We also discussed our activities as a local guide.

Yet another excellent meetup on accessibility @MukulR and also heartening to see @Designer_Biswajit joining you along with @AbdullahAM

I liked all photos and the facilities in this busy area of the city are remarkable.

Also loved the color of tea  a must-have drink after an engaging meetup.

Is Rabbani tea famous in Dhaka?

Hi @MukulR

You’re doing great job with accessibility, it’s really deserving of praise. I am very happy to be a part of your good work. Hope you continue this trend.
Anyway, thank you very much for gifting me a beautiful t-shirt of ‘Accessible Bangladesh’.

Hi @AbdullahAM bro,

Nice to meet you after a long time. Although we haven’t met, but I know you’re also doing great works, especially with ‘small business’. I hope you also continue this trend.

Thanks a lot for your appreciation, Dear @TusharSuradkar Dada. I am very much glad that you like this recap. As you guessed, yes, Rabbani Hotel (actually a restaurant) is really very much popular and busy. It is very tough to get a seat there from the afternoon to 10 pm. You may not easily get a seat to take a cup of nice tea there. Whenever I went there I took my tea outside standing :grinning: . Though I enjoyed it a lot taking tea outside. Other foods are also popular here.
