Being able to get to the meetup venue in time was a huge surprise for me for this Meetup considering the fact it was hosted on a Monday with the regular rush to work with Lagos, the traffic from my location to Luth was a moving traffic.
Meetup started at 8:30am prompt as we were conscious of returning back to work after the meetup.
The entrance to the hospital was stress-free as there were security persons at the gate to help visitors.
There were about 5 car parks within the premises with good accessibility for those who wheelchair
We accessed the accident and emergency building, school of Engineering within the building, optics eye-centre, Luth guest house and their labs. One interesting thing also is the way the building was built to accommodate and ease stress for users/patient. Almost every building has a pharmacy, payments point of transaction and lots of labs within the hospital premises.
Although, the facility is gradually wearing out due to poor maintenance but the environment is neat and green, serene and conducive enough for ailing and recuperating patients and the hospital has lots of qualified medical staffs and consultants.
@AnitaAO Hello Anita, I can relate with what you’re saying about Lagos traffic especially on Mondays. That was a bold move but I’m glad it was successful. The photos are beautiful. Well-done.
Thank you for sharing your recap and thank you for tagging me!
Organising a meet-up on a busy Monday morning, before going to work, speaks volumes about your dedication to the cause of uncovering accessible institutions in your area. Great job!
The LUTH really looks green, peaceful, and wheelchair-friendly. I’m curious, did you notice other kinds of accessibility features in and around the building? Like braille writings or special handrails for people with visual impairment?
@DeniGu , there were no special handrails but I believe the ones on the isles or walkways should serve considering that any virtually impaired sick person would definitely go to the hospital with a company. The only significant braille writings was at one of their entrance gate from Mushin bus stop, there maybe others that I didn’t notice though. Thank you for your inquisitive nature, it’s always a pleasure tagging you to recaps.
And it’s always a pleasure to read your recaps and follow your accessibility quests, @AnitaAO .
Thank you for your reply. You’re right that most people with this disability usually have companions. I was curious whether you had found such features because they also allow differently abled persons to be more independent.
