Want to find out where to go in a country where you don’t speak the language? Now you can with the help of translated reviews on Google Maps.
Local Guides love to travel and a common request is the ability to translate reviews on Google Maps. You can now easily read reviews to discover where to go as Google Maps will display reviews in the language you’ve set on your device. You don’t have to do anything — simply open Google Maps or Search, search for what you’re interested in, and the reviews will be automatically translated by Google Translate.
If you’re learning the local language or want to see the original review, it appears below the translated review, too. Now you can browse Google Maps reviews of the faraway places you have always wanted to visit!
I used it all day yesterday and it felt so natural, I didn’t even register that it wasn’t there before. Well done, in particular for leaving the original review there. When you are bi-lingual one realizes the differences in expressions and meanings of words in other languages. Only showing the auto-translated text can easilly lead to misunderstandings. Big kudos for the people who decided to do it this way.
In addition, realizing that the review is translated and thus perhaps the author a local that speaks the language, also gives us the opportunity to give more weight to the local reviews, when eveluationg our options.
Intetesting feature but please, give a feedback to the Team with askings for adding the option in settings with disabling automatic translation for choosen languge/languages. POIs with many reviews are hard to scrolling down when you see doubled content which you understand in both languages and it’s waste a time.
