The Rang Mahal is a grand secular monument among the heritage sites located in the Kalinjar Fort.
Most of the parts of this two-storey building have been destroyed. The entrance of this palace is capable of reminiscing its golden days. This palace must have been used for the enjoyment of the royal members. In which court dancers, musicians and singers would be performing their art.
The Rang Mahal displays a truly splendid classical architecture. The courtyard can be reached through a vestibule in this east-facing palace. There are verandahs halls on three sides of the courtyard. The roofs of these halls are supported by sandstone pillars, decorated capitals and beams of which the main features are the graceful brackets supporting the hangouts. There are stone’s torch holders on the eaves for lighting torches. Behind the verandahs are the remains of furnished halls and rooms whose roofs rested on arches or seems to be vaulted ceiling. There are stairs leading to the upper floor in the eastern part. There are small openings in the eastern wall to keep an eye. In the western direction, octagonal structures were built on the outer corners. A fountain has also been built in the middle of the palace courtyard. This palace is reminiscent of the buildings built during the period of the Mughal emperor Jahangir and is said to have been built in the 16th and 17th centuries.
It’s a magnificent structure which was built in Mughal Architecture style. It’s a popular tourist attraction in the Kalinjar Fort.
