What is a Ramp you ask they are a wild onion/garlic type plant growing in the woods. From the Allium Trioccum family, I by no means am an expert on the subject. I along with thousands of other Appalachian mountain people love eating them. We dig them with specially crafted implements called “ramp hoes” there are a few folks that don’t like them. An important thing to keep in mind when consuming this delicacy is they have a very strong pungent smell. Its kind of like eat them to be able to stand everyone else, or stay away during ramp season. Here in Richwood West Virginia where I live the ramps seem to be more potent than anywhere else. I have heard folks say maybe because its the climate and soil combination, don’t think anyone really knows for sure. I have eaten them in several other locations and it does seem to be true. Reckon that’s why Richwood claims the title "Ramp Capital of the World.
