Ragada-Patis is the popular street food in the Maharashtra region of India. It is mostly sold in road-side carts or made at home.
Ragada Patis is a chaat item that consists of shallow-fried potato patis topped with dried peas curry called the ragada forming the Ragada-Patis.
Further, various chaat salsa or chutneys are added and sprinkled with shev and spice powders.
The final mixture looks like as seen below and has various textures, tastes, and flavors like spicy, sweet, savory, tangy, crunchy, and crispy.
There are two components to the Ragada-Patis:
- The Patis.
- The Chaat Mixture.
Ragada-Patis Composition
Green chutney salsa made from crushed coriander and mint leaves.
Chilli chutney salsa made from dry red chilies mixed with garlic and crushed.
Sweet salsa or chutney made from tamarind, jaggery with a few spices added.
Curd or Yogurt is optional but essential for the right taste.
Onions & Tomatoes too are optional but can take the taste to a new level.
Sev which are fine noodles of gram flour.
A unique Chaat Masala can be bought from the stores or prepared at home with roasted cumin seed powder, red dry chili powder, and salt though black salt is recommended.
