Rabindranath Tagore is our national poet. He was a poet, novelist, musician and artist. He took birth on 7th May 1861 and passed away on 7thAugust 1941.
But acording to our Bengali calender it is observed on 25th Vaishak,(english - 9th May) every year.
His main activities were mostly associated geograohically with undivided Bengal (now West Bengal in India and Bangladesh). Viswabharati University was created by him. His litearay works, may be called countless.
I consider this poem/song as his prayer for himself (for everyone):

Make my soul blossom as a flower, thou who art my very own –
Make me pure, bathe in blessed light and make me beautiful in your eyes
Awaken me and give me the strength to cast aside all fear.
Shower me with your love so that I may grow tireless in casting aside all doubt.
Lead me into the world and free me from all obstacles.
Imbue all my actions with your gentle tune.
Let my soul dance to the beat of your feet
Welcome me, greet me and acknowledge me
