R I C E ..... With a Puerto Rican Touch

As many of the Islands in the Caribbean, Puerto Rico cousine was influenced by los Tainos, original indians in the Island. Spain, from the colonization, and the Africans. This fusion of cultural flavour and seasonings make the bases of Puerto Rican dishes. Since then , the introduction of other Culinary precens in the Island, like Asian, Portuguese, French, Italian , and North American, make our plates, one of the most delicious in the area.

Considerated for some people as a cereal grain; Rice is the king on the word daily consumption. As you can Google in the internet, more than half of the World population eat rice on a daily bases. Rice, came in the market with a variety of grain sizes. All depend on the selling point.

In Puerto Rico, is a staple dish. Here we present some examples:

Almohabanas or Granos :

This is fritter is consume mostly in the mid-east and East of Puerto Rico. Easy to cook, it is a blend of groumed Rice flour cooked slowed with water and salt, until the mixture combine as a paste. Once is cold, the paste is molded as bigger grain with cheddar cheese inside, an then golden fry.

Asopao de Pollo: This is the Puerto Rican National soup. Its ingrendients include, Rice, Chicken, Adobo - Local seasoning, Oregano, Olive oil, Cumin, Sofrito, Cilantro, Bay leaf, Chicken broth, sweet peas, and red sliced pimientos.

Rice and Beans: This is the typical dally entree in the Puerto Rican family dinner. As easy as steam or bolled white Rice, with your choice of Beans. All with the siding portion of your choice of meat or poultry.

There is a lot of Puerto Rican Recipes that can be ranked in the first 5 in the Puerto Rico taste.

Arroz con pollo, and Arroz con Gandules , Arroz Maposteo, and as dessert, Arroz con Dulce, will be showcased on other post.

In order to not write a long post we are going to mention only two international Rice plate that are now part of our culinary experience in the Island:

Congri: As part of the influence of other Caribbean Island in our Cousine, this is an excellent Cuban recipe, Rice with Black Beans that have been introduce in Puerto Rico as one of the International dish option of Rice cooking.

Paella: From influence of Spain, this recipe principally include mix of Seafood, azafran, olives,olive oil, chorizo, onions, red and green pepper. This plate is a high end customer entree in most of Restaurants in the. marine coast of the Island.

Thank you for sharing these delicious dishes with us. Turkish cuisine also uses the rice as a side dish and also for desserts. Did you cook the paella by yourself? It is one of my favourites. Which one is yours?

This me, making Paella.For me, this is one of the easy to do Rice Dishes. But I really enjoy our Puerto Rican, Arroz con Pollo and Arroz con Gandules. Now that I have more free time available at Home, because the Quarantine, I will post more Puerto Rican Rice dishes soon. I will try to use your photo tips to improve my post.
