Questions & Answers on 1- Mininute Video
(This is an unofficial document prepared by TravellerG & Team - not an official Document by Google).
[These suggestions are based on my decades of experience as a Videographer/Director & as a Judge in different forums; also, I have referred 1-Min Videos of previous years as examples.]
(The questions are random)
- What are the basic tips for a successful 1-Min Video (for beginners)?
- Keep the LENS of your Mobile / Camera clean ā this is important.
- Plan your video as simple & clean as possible - than noisy & crowded scenesā¦
- Select your āPromptā based on your time available & your technical expertise to prepare the video.
- Prepare a meaningful script based on your prompt.
- Do rehearsal to avoid stuttering & audio breaks.
- Use default Mobile Camera Settings for shooting.
- Repeat your rehearsal till you are happy.
- Save a reasonably Good Video Clip rather than looking for the BEST of the BEST shot.
- You need to upload the Video to YouTube to insert into the Application Form.
- More details on request
- Will it be acceptable if shot in Selfie Mode?
Yes, surely it should be.
- Main Camera or Front camera will be better?
For this video, both the cameras (in modern mobiles) are equally good**.**
- Can I use the front & Back Camera together?
Yes, if this feature is available on your mobile**.**
- Can I use a Selfie stick for shooting?
Yes, so far as your shot is not shaky.
- Can I ask a friend to shoot my video?
Yes
- Can I use a tripod for shooting?
Sure, maybe a tripod can be a better option for holding, in some situations.
- Daylight Shooting or Night time Shooting, which is better?
Surely, Shooting during the day is better, although it is good to avoid the bright sun between 11 AM to 3 PM; Nighttime shooting may be better in some cases - but, you need to give proper importance for good lighting (proper exposure)
- Can I shoot from the inside of a Mall or Restaurant?
Yes, technically you can shoot, provided you have the necessary permissions; here too, the proper camera Exposure is important. [most of the modern Mobiles will shoot well]
- What is the time limit for the Video?
Better to keep within ONE minute, say above 54 seconds; however,
62 seconds may not be treated as a rejection.
- What is Important in the Video? Is it a visual Part or Audio Part?
Video with Poor audio will surely be rejected; Visual is important but,
audio is more important.
- In the video, is the Person or the Background important?
Person.
- For the person, what aspect is important?
- Decent & comfortable dress.
- Keep the Body closer to the centre of the screen [Need NOT be exact centre at all, say within the 2/3****rd of the screen]
- Lighting on the āFaceā is very important.
- Pleasant body language is another counting factor.
- A smiling/pleasing face will help a lot (For further details, refer āCreate Video Postsā
- Technically what are the important parameters?
- Choose Landscape (keep Mobile Horizontally, while shooting)
- Try to shoot at 1080p (1920 x 1080 Pixel resolution); 4K is definitely not needed.
- 16:9 aspect ratio is more pleasant; however, 4:3 also wonāt be rejected.
- Although a slight shake may not be a rejection, vibration (blurred) video may not be accepted.
- Personally I suggest to use a Noise cancelling headset Mic for recording your Audio (Wired or Bluetooth)
- Charged Mobile, Memory, etc are essentials, as you all know.
- Moving video or stationary video, which is better?
It depends on your theme ā however, stationary video is simpler; But
moving will be more attractive ā this needs little more technical expertise**.**
- Graphics & Slides will give a better effect?
Not at all!!!, in fact, such effects will reduce the concentration of the viewer (Moderator) on you ā fully avoid**.**
- Considering the 60 seconds Video, Starting or ending we should concentrate more?
Starting (Half); if the first part does not give a good impression, the second part may not be even viewed.
- Whether Pre-planning or Shooting important?
I will give 60% to 70% importance to Planning before Shooting & Shooting, Editing & uploading will weigh only 40% to 30%.
- How to select my prompt & Plan for my video?
Time available to you to complete the video
The resources like shooting equipment, travel expense, etc.
Technical knowledge available with you to shoot & edit, etc.
Based on these key points, select the prompt.
- Main aspects with which I may be ASSESSED using my video:
The selection process is Googleās proprietary process**; however, as a Judge, I would consider the following:**
Your Personality (including your dressing style), Your Presentational Skills**, Your** body language (with emphasis on facial expression), Basic understanding level in English (without giving much emphasis on English Accent). The quality of your Script (Is Script connected to your Prompt, too).
- Criteria to rate the Overall Performance of my video**:**
Again this is a Google proprietary area - my opinion:
How much āGoogle & You will be mutually benefitedā if you are selected.
- How to prepare the Script (Dialogue)?
