Question Which is the helpful photo for a place?

Hi, I want to ask:

What they based on to offer two photos to choose from in Question of a place, and ask which is the most helpful of a place?

They based on the most visited photo or the one with more likes? Or none of the previous options?
Thanks
Kind Regards.

Hi @SebaasC ,

Iā€™m not completely sure I understand your question. I think Google is asking these questions to help decide which photos to feature (show on the frontpage) for each place. I believe they also use some AI to evaluate the quality of each picture so it is not only feed back from local guides that decide which pictures to feature.

There is another post about what featured pictures mean. You might want to read that as well:

Dear @MortenCopenhagen thanks for your comments.

Maybe I was not clear.

Why they choose this two pictures to ask the Local Guides which of the two are more helpful?

In my screenshot example there are products pictures, but in other ocations it shown, selfies or pictures that are no related with the business.

I donā€™t think it is related with the quality, I donā€™t know.

In the other hand I read the post that you linked me and I have never had the mail of Featured Photo.

Thanks a lot.!

@SebaasC Maps shows us two photos to vote us which is better. I think they take decision based on the votes along with their AI as mentioned by @MortenCopenhagen .

Ahh, I think they are selected randomly from the pictures uploaded resently. The value for Google depends getting a lot of replys.

I often abstain from selecting one if they are both bad or not representative.

BTW. The most fun is when I get this choice and one of the pics is my very own! Guess which one I then select :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

@MortenCopenhagen I do exactly the same as you, I abstein cause both shown donā€™t represents the place or are very bad pictures.

I think we have there an opportunity of improvement.

Thanks for your replies!

Lol @MortenCopenhagen Iā€™ve never seen my photos in that kind of question! :frowning: You must be super lucky!

But yeah, I would guess that thereā€™s some sort of reasoning behind the two choices. I canā€™t imagine it to be purely random. I would say that the AI has some ambiguity in the quality of the two options and needs some human guidance as to which is the better choice.

And like everyone else commenting here, I also abstain when both choices are pretty bad.

Interesting question though @SebaasC

I think they normally appear when someone is ā€œchecking factsā€ of a place.

Heyy! @AdrianLunsong Hello!

Thank you.

Sometimes I find my pics too, as @MortenCopenhagen specially in the small business and I choose them, but if the other option is better, I discard mine and choose the other.

But I find many selfies or pics of another places that are not related too in this kind of questions. I donā€™t know if the IA is working properly or it is just like this.

As I said in a previous comment I think that we have there an improvement opportunity.

Thanks! Bye.

I just add 4 questions only from today, all with some unhelpful pics.

@SebaasC perhaps you should submit an Idea to Idea Exchange that they should add a button ā€˜Both pics are unfitā€™ or something of that nature. I would definitely vote for that, as I have also faced occasions where that was needed.

Just skipping without making a choice could be interpreted (by AI or Googlers) as ā€˜both are equally good at representing the POIā€™

I have to add that sometimes, because of the small size of the photos, it makes them useless and makes a selection extremely difficult. It would be good if we could click or select any of the two photos and enlarge it to full screen to better view it and then make a more informed decision about which is best!

Yes @JanVanHaver maybe it is a very good idea to submit this issue in the board Idea Exchange. As I see many other Local Guides are facing the same doubt.

Thanks for your response!

@AdamGT it would be a good point too.

Hi @SebaasC ,

What you can do in cases like this is to click on More choices and then select one of the options which you think suits best.

Hi, @KlaudiyaG , thanks for your comment.

I click More options but these one arenā€™t so clear.

Example:

It depends( ?) Depends of what?

The question is no clear( the question is clear, but the images arenā€™t both suitable in some cases)

It donā€™t apply ( tell if this is the best option)

The place is closed permantly ( never is the case)

Thanks for your help.

Regards!
