Question: How to add a photo to a list?

Hello Local Guides! I’m hoping someone can help me figure out how to add a photo to a list I created in maps? I attached some screenshots of what I’m seeing on my phone in case that helps. I’m at a loss and have spent an inordinate amount of time trying to navigate around but it’s still confusing to me. (I also submitted feedback to the maps team letting them know I can’t figure this out but I couldn’t attach any screenshots. And I did do a search on here to see if I could find the answer but I didn’t see a relevant answer in the first 10-20 results; therefore, I’m biting the bullet and asking here as I imagine I’m not the only one wondering about this…?)

Thank you all in advance!

Cheers,

Dina

Hello @DLo , from your screnshots I understand that the list you want to create pertain to roads (or similar) that do not have any photos posted on Google Maps. If that place or road does not contain any photos on Google Maps while you create a list of these places you will not have photos to select (because indeed there are no photos available on Google Maps for that place ). I suggest you then first to add photos to that places by using Google Maps and once the photos are added and approved on Google Maps for each of your places you may proceed to create a list and you will be able to select for each place of your list a preferred photo to display in the summary of your list. Hope it helps.

@DLo I also tried uploading photos several times like you but in vain. Seems this function is also broken along with other option like adding comments to lists. Back then I was able to choose photos for places of a list but after saving it vanished.

So, for now, leave adding custom photos to the list and let the maps automatically pick one.

I think @sonnyNg would like to take a look at this too including the comments problem reported about a month ago.

Hi @Giuseppe75 ! Thank you for your thoughts/advice on what the issue might be. I have tried to go back and search google maps for the road/trail but I’m also hitting a wall when I open up the location (road/trail) as I can’t actually figure out how to add a photo to it from maps…? I honestly tried a number of locations multiple times and it just doesn’t seem to be an option. I’m on an android and truly perplexed. I’ll keep trying though and if I figure it out using this method (or some other method), I’ll let you and the community know. Again, thank you for taking the time to try to help…it is appreciated! Cheers!

Hi @SaifIS …thank you for the advice this may be broken. :frowning: It’s a bummer to not be able to do this and I had no idea comments were vanishing too…? Ugh. I’ll have to go look to see if the comments I added are still there or if they’re gone…? It’s good to know I’m not going completely crazy and that I’m not an idiot as I can’t figure this out. You all are making me feel better by responding and letting me know I’m not alone. It’s greatly appreciated and I appreciate the help! (And I’ll try to help others as time goes on and I learn how to navigate all of this!) Cheers!

Hi @DLo ,

Thanks for reaching out to the community!

Much appreciated for the tips, kindly suggested by @Giuseppe75 . : ]

As a remark, it would seem that those are landmarks, which edit/photo adding can be published only by suggestion of an edit to Google Maps.

For the moment, make sure to utilize point of interests which may contain already provided, so that photos can be chosen, as Giuseppe suggested above.

@sonnyNg , thank you for clarifying the issue I am having with uploading photos. It’s interesting photos can only be added by making an edit request but I guess I’ll re-do the list and use points of interest instead. I appreciate the help and tips from the others here. Thanks, guys! Cheers!
