If you travel to New York City from JFK using the Subway (45min-75min), a waypoint is the Station at Sutphin Blvd., which is 3 railway connections next to each other. Coming from the airport the loop train connects to the Red Line Airtrain, ($8.75 with add’l subway fare and metrocard) and it takes you to Jamaica Center. Leaving the airtrain station the next rail is the L.I.R.R., where for a higher fare ($6.75- less on weekends) it takes you directly to Penn Station at 7th/8th Ave and 34th st. You can then connect to subways or buses in Manhattan. Walking past those steps and rails to the elevators is the last rail, or New York City Subway. Going down to the lower level beneath the street the metro card with the add’l subway fare ($2.75) is the way to go if you’re connecting to the bus line at the Port Authority bus terminal at 42nd street, or going to Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan or the Bronx. Do feel free to ask at the token booth in the subway for a free system map, and Don’t put $40 on the Airtrain card, it’s not valid for subway fares. When you get to the subway level- at the token kiosk, there is a weekly subway pass available for $32.
