¡Qué Paella! - Let's cook! #CommunityChefChallenge

I love food. And when I cannot find what I like outside, I make it myself. And in this time when we don’t have much flexibility in moving around, that’s a surprisingly useful skill.?

So, when I read the post by @AlexandreCampbell and other community challenges by @AdrianLunsong, I knew I had to share something special. Although, I have created many previous posts about other delicious foods at home, I just needed to write a new post.

Today I will share my Paella making experience. Please don’t assume my recipe is correct or authentic, it’s not, it’s just how I made it, and how I like it to be made by myself.

For firsts, Paella is pronounced as pa-ye-ya. ?

For seconds, Paella is a very important rice dish/meal in Spain. It’s a rice dishes cooked with meat and seafood using a flat frying pan, apparently also named a Paella. ?

Ingredients:

1/4 cup olive oil

1 cup chicken chunks

1 cup lamb chunks

1 clove garlic chopped

1 onion chopped

1 cup zucchini chopped

3 cups short grain rice

4.5 cups chicken stock

2 cups combination seafood - shrimp, mussels, clams etc

1 Tbs tomato paste

salt/pepper to taste

[Picture above] - First heat the pan, add the olive oil. Add the lamb, brown, then add the chicken, brown. Then add the garlic and onion, and sautee until soft. Add in the zucchini. Fry for 2 minutes.

[Picture above] - Add in the rice, fry the rice grains for a few minutes until well coated with oil.

[Picture above] - Add in the chicken stock, and the tomato paste. Bring to boil. Reduce fire to bare minimum and let cook. for 5 minutes.

[Picture above] - Layer the seafood above and continue cooking in small flame until the stock has been all absorbed.

[Picture above] - keep heating until you hear a soft frying sound, so the bottom of the paella rice becomes crispy.

[Picture above] - Done, the crispy bottom is the best part of the paella.

Serve and enjoy. My simple take on Spanish paella.

Have you made your own Paella before?

Hi, @StephenAbraham Thank you very much for taking part in this challenge. I love to eat paella, and it is a dish that I’ve never cooked so far. Maybe I can be inspired by your recipe that looks very tasty. I’m not Spanish, but your Paella looks perfect. De acuerdo, AlejandraMaria?

By the way, there is no just one correct way to prepare a dish, and your personal touch is what makes it unique.

Cheers,

Alexandre

@StephenAbraham oooh brave! :joy: But I’m envious of your cooking skills! As a side note, after reading your post, I just realised that paella is similar to the Asian claypot chicken rice in that the rice is cooked together with the meat and cooked until all the moisture is absorbed.

@AlejandraMaria What do you think of Stephen’s creative cooking?

¡Hi @StephenAbraham !

Delicious paella you have cooked :yum:

There are many many ways of cooking, each chef has its own recipe . As you

@AdrianLunsong I thinkStephen’s creative cooking is amazing    A top chef :man_cook:

Paella :shallow_pan_of_food: is one of our typical Spanish meals :es: . We usually eat it with friends because it´s perfect for groups: easy to prepare and big enough for many people. This one was for 15. Maybe don´t look big , it´s because while rice is cooking we are talking and eating cheese, serrano ham … So it´s not the only meal we eat.

As you said Steaphen, the container in which it is cooked is called a “paellera” , it is like a frying pan with two handles. The names are very similar: paella and paellera.

A big big hug from the South of Spain,

Alejandra.

The paella looks delicious, @StephenAbraham ! I tried it for the first time 2 years ago, at a Spanish restaurant in the US. I’ve been a fan ever since!
