Pupuru is a staple in the culture of the IKALE, which comprises two the two local governments of Okitipupa and Irele,in Ondo State in Nigeria. Pupuru is grown by cultivating the stem of a cassava plant in a loamy soil. Between nine and eighteen months, the plant is ready for harvest.
The consumable part of the cassava is the root that has swollen and developed into tuber form. After harvest, the tuber is peeled and soaked into water for about four days, during which it softens, and thereby made into paste. After draining off some of the water contents, the paste is made into ball form and dried by smoking on fire for several hours. The balls is then broken down into powdered form and dried further on a frying basin. At this stage, the cassava is fully preserved, and can last for so many months.
For immediate consumption, collect your choice volume of the powder, stair in hot water, and serve with your favourite soup.

Ose, Omo Iya mi.
Thank you for promoting our local food.
I would have loved if you include pictures of prepared ready-to-eat Pupuru with a nice soup like Egusi, Ila alasepo/Ewedu or Efo riro garnished with Eja tutu, Inu Eran and Ogufe!
Blessings!

Yes, but with slight difference. After removing cassava tubers from water, and made into paste, needs no drying before boiling water as fufu.
Thanks a lot. I am a Yoruba, and a native of IKALE.
Ifeanyi, you wrote your reply in pure Yoruba language, and I guess you an Ibo. How come? Omo Iya mi.
