Pune Bamboo Festival 2023 - A step towards sustainability

Hello LGs,

Merry Christmas to everyone!!!

Last weekend, I visited the Pune Bamboo Festival 2023 exhibition in our town. It was there for the weekend only, so we rushed to the location.

It was jam-packed with people viewing various bamboo products on display from various businesses. I was amazed at how useful bamboo is in our daily lives. All I knew about bamboo’s application was that it was used for furniture and crafts. However, this exhibition increased our understanding of versatility, sustainability, and resourcefulness.

Photo 01: Some of the modern-style items crafted from bamboo displayed at the exhibition.

It was not just about furniture at the festival. Everything from clothing to musical instruments, building structures to bicycles—every detail has demonstrated the limitless applications of this wonder grass. It seemed to be a living example of how eco-friendly living can be both fashionable and useful.

Photo 02: A few more well-crafted items for sale at the exhibition.

Witnessing furniture crafted from this versatile material, from sleek minimalist chairs to intricately carved dining tables, confirms that it is indeed a sustainable alternative to wood. Observing the application of traditional weaving methods to produce contemporary home furnishings was a masterclass in cultural resurgence.

Photo 03: I was stunned to see the bicycle out of Bambaoo, and the owner informed me that it was used for a record ride on the Manali-Leh highway by a female cyclist. Remarkable! A few more items are also available to buy.

Photo 04: These handwoven buckets and small boats look so nice! There was a stall for kids, some toys and stationary, toothbrushes; it was houseful! We just could not enter there. :grinning:

When we had a discussion with some of them, many highlighted how it is helpful to climate change due to its quick growth, small water footprint, and capacity to store carbon. It made a lasting impression to learn about the potential and difficulties the bamboo sector faces. These types of exhibitions also generate revenue for local farmers, who requested full support, and we obliged.

Pune Bamboo Festival 2023 was a festival of a material that not only promises a healthier planet but also offers doors to a more visually beautiful and sustainable future, and all in all, it was a much-needed dose of inspiration and enlightenment.

Based on the responses they received, the exhibitor confirmed that they will return next year.

Thanks, @Rohan10 for your compliments!

You’ve correctly pointed out an eco-friendly living structure; definitely, it is of high standards, if not fashionable. It’s all about our inner senses accepting the facts and starting to live accordingly.

Great post @AjitThite Sir, amazed by the level of creativity and products made from Bamboo. Bamboo is one of the substitute of plastic, bamboo has less decomposition time as compared to plastic, which takes 20-500 years to decompose. I also believe in sustainability and create products from old newspapers, as a substitute to plastic and its products . My sustainable brand also believes in upcycling and three pillars of sustainability that is Planet, People and Profit! Thank you for bringing such useful post for everyone! Regards Sir!

woow… such a great festival packed with artistic and natural items @AjitThite . Is that a bamboo bike? Incredible! As you know, here in Indonesia, we have so many bamboo trees as well and thus we do have abundant bamboo products. I have seen similar things and I guess it’s part of our local wisdom to use natural resources wisely and smartly as well. I salute all the craftspersons behind all these items.

Thanks for sharing it @AjitThite

I believe @Nyainurjanah @NunungAfuah and @Velvel have more to add or share as well, as we have many bamboo products in Indonesia
