Puncak Tanawan: a place away from the noise and hustles of the city

Going retreat with the barkadas?

When you’re tired of all the noise and hustles of the city, escape now to Puncak Tanawan for a cool retreat offering fresh air and spectacular views.

:mountain_biking_man: Why is it called Puncak Tanawan?

Puncak is an Indonesian word for top or peak, while Tanawan is a Filipino word which means a place from where one can view things far away. Puncak Tanawan is a popular hiking site in the island of Negros Oriental. It is said to be the highest peak in Sibulan, Negros Oriental, located specifically in Brgy. Balugo. The place gives a panoramic view of Dumaguete City as well as nearby islands like Cebu, Siquijor and Apo Island.

:footprints: How to get there?

From Dumaguete to Sibulan, you can ride a Ceres bus or a public Easyride/Multicab, or drive your own vehicle. The drop-off point is at the crossing of Brgy. Balugo, shooting range to be exact. “Habal-habal” seldom passes by the area so if you are not riding your own private vehicles, you do not have any option but to walk going to the entrance of the peak and that would last about an hour. For those who ride their own transportation, you can immediately drive up to the entrance and park your vehicle there and start the trek. Parking fee is at least Php 10.

From the starting point, it will be a 3.3-km hike to reach the peak, bring with you a bottle of water. “Habal-habal” is also available at the starting point for those opting not to hike, which costs Php 100 per person. The place is a private property. There is an entrance fee of Php 25 and an overnight fee of Php 75 per person. You can also rent a 3-person tent for Php 150. There is also a mini store that sells milk, coffee, pancit canton, and basic breakfast.

Hi, @AngieYC . Thank you for reminding about reaching 1000 photos. I’ll put that in mind. We actually rented the tents for Php 250-Php 350 each, depending on the size. They also serve basic meal on breakfast. They also charges an overnight fee of Php 75 per person. But, it was all worth it.

Hi, @br14n . Thank you. I think I’ve used Canon 7D for this. Yes, should you visit Philippines and Dumaguete City, in particular, buzz me up so I can give you a tour. Heheh. I’ve been to you country last year. I visited Jakarta.
