Problems of Google Map in Bangladesh

In a country like Bangladesh, not many people have the awareness of using social medias properly. So, when it comes to specialized media like google map, the problem is even more acute. I find some issues that the users and contributors of google map are relevant to.

Problem:

  1. People think map is a like facebook or instagram. So, they share personal photos here.

  2. Many think it as a game where the more you post, the more points you gain. So, they post hundreds of stuffs that has little or no value at all to the users.

  3. Many people understand the idea of the map but still posts a sentence long review just to go up in level. Sometimes they post reviews like “Good”, “Bad” etc. that does not help.

Solution:

  1. Using AI to track the useful contributions.

  2. Campaigns to spread the true purpose of map and how to use it properly.

Hi @Tannu26

I do agree with you. But I believe what you are proposing is already in place. Bad contributions are being suppressed like reviews get hidden and most bad photos get very few views.

What kinds of campaigns would you expect could be effective?

Cheers

Morten

Well @MortenCopenhagen , it’s not that effective. Still a lot of out of context and bad quality photos and reviews are showing up on maps. I have seen in Qatar that photos of American football field is uploaded in a soccer field, which should be immediately detected by AI and thus removed. Moreover, in many cases good contributions by local guides are suprressed and hidden and it takes a whole lot of time to get them back. This discourages experienced local guides to put effort in writing good quality reviews and taking great photos
