I don’t know about you but whenever I read something or see something about a place that I have visited it attracts my interest and this happened again on the weekend when reading a local newspaper. I read that U.S. President Donald Trump wants to buy Greenland. Haha I thought this was some kind of joke. But no joke because on the daily news yesterday I heard President Trump himself confirming that he did in fact want to buy Greenland saying that “Essentially it’s a large real estate deal. A lot of things can be done.” While the Danish territory has said that Geenland is not for sale, President Trump is believed to be considering raising this idea when he visits Denmark in September, as part of his trip to Europe. Don’t get me wrong as I’m not Greenlandic but I did visit beautiful Greenland last year as I was interested in seeing the impact of climate change for myself in this part ofthe world and this President Trump idea just had me thinking. Have you heard about President Trump’s idea of purchasing Greenland and what do you think about this?

Hi @AdamGT Beautiful place. How Lucky you are for have been there. About your question, I’ve read this news just superficially. However, it looks a complex issue and I’m not sure if it’d be viable. Take in mind that it needs to be approved by both American and Danish Congress, in addition, of course, to be approved by Greenlanders through a referendum. It sounds more a kind of political rhetoric in my view.
Hi @AlexandreCampbell and thanks for your comments. Yes Greenland is a beautiful place and I was extremely fortunate to have had the opportunity to visit. Yes it does sound like political rhetoric and no doubt, as you have said, it is a complex issue, but don’t discount it. I’ve been doing some research and did you know that long before Donald Trump, the US purchased Alaska from Russia in 1867? They purchased Alaska for the bargain price of $7.2 million which I’ve read equates to just $125 million in 2019 dollars! The US also purchased the Danish West Indies in 1917 and renamed them the US Virgin Islands!!! So there are precedents!
@AdamGT I also like reading news about places I’ve visited, it’s like you stay somehow linked to them now seriously, I see your concern coming from a man who has denied climate change I hope whatever the outcome of this situation it’s for the best for the people and the environment
Hello. It ’s wonderful nature. I was impressed by the beauty. I’m excited because the iceberg has only been seen in the news. I felt that it was a top priority to leave this beautiful nature without changing it. Thank you very much. Regard
Latest. He just announced that he cancelled the State visit because our Prime minister stated clearly that Greenland is not for sale. He invited himself in the first place…
Wow! Thanks for sharing these photos and there’s so much beauty in Greenland! I especially like those little rows of houses. For Trump, to me it just looks like another idea from him by whim, or tweet.
Yes we definitely have a link with the places that we’ve visited and I also find that many of these places seem to come up more often in say a travel magazine, newspaper or news item and it’s been just this with me regarding beautiful Greenland. I don’t know if there is any substance behind Donald Trump’s statements but I do know that the US has purchased other lands (e.g. Alaska) and has also tried to purchase Greenland before so maybe this is another attempt and like you, whatever happens, I certainly do hope that the outcome is best for the 57,000 Greenlanders and the environment.
I didn’t believe it at first but it has been confirmed and it’s well reported that Donald Trump does in fact want to buy Greenland. Thank you for your liking the pics but believe me the natural beauty of Greenland goes way beyond them, it truly is an amazing place and the local people that live there are just as amazing.
I’ve just released your post from our spam quarantine. Apologies for any inconvenience caused. Our spam filters run 24/7 and can be a bit harsh sometimes.
I too thought this was a joke when I first heard about it but apparently not. We are proud to call Greenland a part of the Danish kingdom, and I hope it will stay that way.
Thanks for attending to this problem and releasing the post from your harsh spam filters.
Regarding Donald Trump’s offer to purchase Greenland, well I just thought that this had to be some kind of joke but as the days went on I realized that it was no joke so I became concerned about it as having visited beautiful Greenland and walked with and talked with the beautiful Greenlandic Inuit people I just couldn’t imagine it happening. I had visions of some kind of Trump Tower set against the beautiful Greenland background. I totally agree that Greenland must remain part of the Danish Kingdom and it was great to see that when I was there, infrastructure development work happening to improve the quality of life and great stores like Brugseni, even though no doubt subsidized, supplying great products for the small local population.
You’re right @AdamGT , it’s really a beautiful place and great photos you’ve captured from there by the way. I haven’t visited Greenland myself, in fact I don’t think many Danish people actually have, but it’s definitely on my bucket list.
Saludos Farid

Thank you for your reply and comments @FaridTDF and I’m pleased that you liked my photos. Yes it sounds like a ridiculous idea to most but as I wrote in a reply above, for the bargain price of just $7.2 million the US purchased Alaska from Russia in 1867!!! The US also purchased the Danish West Indies in 1917 and renamed them the US Virgin Islands!!! So there are precedents however, I heard now that Donald Trump has cancelled his planned September trip to Denmark because the Danish Prime Minister dismissed Trump’s Greenland idea.
I didn’t read about them plan of DT but your photos are really amazing and you are so lucky to have got the opportunity to visit this beautiful place. I really hope that this beautiful treasure of nature will not be impacted by false human interests. I really hope thank you for sharing
Thank you so much for your kind comment @Giuseppe75 . and I totally agree with you about the future of this amazing land. You are absolutely right, I am so lucky to have had the opportunity to visit Greenland. It was truly an amazing experience.
