Poverty Labelling and Life Contentment

I roamed in my country for 15 years because of my work as a learning and development worker and a poverty eradication advocate. I witnessed different levels of poverty, as in literally, economical/financial. So with my roles, - I trained people, usually labelled grassroots and poor. It is believed that by educating them, giving them access to financials, providing livelihood trainings, helping them grow their business enterprise and related support will help them move out from poverty. And these are facts. If someone extends better help when they see hardships of others, that is ideal, and thereby little by little will heed the problem of poverty.

In one of my encounters with villagers. They believed that in some situation, poverty is just a state of the mind. There was this family with a youngson works tirelessly helping his father earn a living by picking and selling “Buko” young coconuts which they considered a gift from above to sustain the family needs since the coconut trees grow well in the land. They don’t see themselves poor as they received needed grace, study and eat fair enough. They live in a small house and it does not define abundance by living in luxury. Indeed, religious by faith.

This leads me to my content title.

#poverty#label#contentment

"Not all people being addressed poor believed they are poor people"

“Not all labelled poor people are actually poor as they are well-off people concealed themselves as poor”

“Not all who see poverty actually fathomed poverty”

To heed poverty, we should start sharing fairly as we can.
