Posting videos on Google

Hi there,

I can see that there is a scope to post (atleast 3) videos on Google Maps review. But how can I do that? I have not come across an option to post video. Apparently posting 3 videos unlocks the “director” badge.

So does that mean you have to be at a certain level to do this?

Would be grateful if someone can shed some light on this please.

Many thanks

I have the same doubt.

Hello @SutapaB and @Diegooliveira1

Yes it is possible to upload videos to the maps on Android. I do that on daily basis. I have added 78 videso so far. I did a couple today.

Make sure your Maps app is updated to the latest version. Here are the steps:

Add a photo or video from a place’s page

Note: To add videos, you must use an Android device.

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Maps app

  2. Search for a place or tap it on the map.

  3. From the bottom, tap the place’s name or address to see more info.

  4. Tap Add photos. You might have to scroll down to see this.

  5. Choose what you want to do:

    • Choose a photo or video from your gallery: Tap Folder.

    • Take a new photo: Tap Camera

      tap the shutter.

    • Take a new video: Tap Camera

tap and hold the shutter for up to 10 seconds to record a video. To remove a video’s sound, tap the sound bars on the bottom right.

Note: You can add photos for points of interest, like businesses or parks, but not addresses or coordinates.

Add photos or videos from “Your contributions”

  1. Make sure that you have the Google Photos app installed with back up & sync turned on and Location History turned on.

  2. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Maps app

  3. Tap Menu

    Your contributions.

  4. Under the “Contribute” tab, tap Add your photos to Maps.

    • To post a photo or video, tap one or more photos.
    • To edit a photo or video’s location, tap the place name and select a different place.
  5. Tap Post.

Add a photo or video using Google Photos or your Gallery app

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open Google Photos or your Gallery app.

  2. Select a photo or video.

  3. Tap Share

  4. Tap Add to Maps

  5. Select a place. To search for another place, tap Somewhere else.

  6. Tap Post

For more details regarding the steps, please take a look at the following article:

Add, remove, or share photos and videos

Hope this answers your questions.

Hi @SutapaB and @Diegooliveira1

There isn’t a separate button or option to add videos so currently you use the Add a photo option and follow the prompts to add a video as mentioned by @SholaIB

You might like to support this idea :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi @SutapaB

  1. I use Google Maps on a desktop computer in a browser and normally drop videos from the Windows Explorer in the same area where we add photos.

  2. There is no limit to the number of videos that can be added to a single place. I have added up to 5 videos to a few places where it was appropriate to showcase the various segments of a large place like an amusement park or a large public park.

Also, the information about unlocking the badges is provided in the respective category.
