- I tried to pest a picture of a great place to go have breakfast in kannapolis NC but every picture I had it said the file was too big. Not sure why but that is kinda a pain cause I have a lot of great photos to share. Would be great to be able to post any picture we want to. But I just started on here so maybe I have yet to figure it out.
Hello @Donna28081 , this Local Guides Connect platform has a built-in limitation for the size of pictures you upload. They should not be bigger than 3 MB. Usually this means you have to make them smaller with another app or program before you can upload them
Hi @Donna28081 ,
Thank you for sharing with us.
As @JanVanHaver have mentioned, on the Connect platform there is a restriction of the size (memory wise) of uploaded pictures, suggested in the Guidelines for uploading photos.
In case you would like to share pictures with more convenience, please make sure to check out the Google Photos, it may come in really handy.
I have moved your post to How-tos, as there would be a better exposure of audience.
Exactly, I usually use Google Photos to manage that as well. I may store much larger files on my local device, however down scaling them for use on Google Photos is probably the best way to share them.
Hi @Donna28081 , @SeanC_3
if you check the link suggested by @sonnyNg , and the related documentation linked in there, you will discover that there is also an option for embedding photos from google photo. In this way, there is no need to downscale photos, because the photos are not loaded in Connect.
Here below a sample from this post (where I have embedded also a large GIF file)
That is indeed a great example, @ErmesT !
Thank you for sharing.
Thank you @sonnyNg
We worked hard for months, for building up a constructive reply to the community about posting photos, referring both to the limit of 1000 photos (that is the quota for every member in Connect) and to the possibility of sharing larger files.
Traci’s post and my post (both linked inside the post shared by you) was written with this objective in mind.
My reply with the example is just to show that the system works as intended. Other improvements have been requested, to make it easier to manage, but it works already.
The other option is to share an album made in Google photos, like the one shared at the end of this post: Traveling Like a Local - Italy - Montagnana - Exploring the walled city
Feel free to use it as a reference

Please excuse if there are any misunderstandings, @ErmesT .
It is really valuable that the researches by all Local Guides have helped building up the community.
I will also have to take notes, in order to improve myself in each way possible to enhance my work proficiency.
Oh no, @sonnyNg
your reply is ok, sometime my English is a bit “rude” (sorry, it was’t intentional).
I am not usually writing about myself, but was probably the first Local Guide to hit the limit of 1000 photos, as I was posting photos, a lot of photos, unaware of any limit. After that moment, I had to learn how to manage it, using Google Photos for sharing contents, deleting photos from my albums and from my oldest post. This until Traci wrote a post about embedding photos in the community.
That’s why I am so happy to share, when this can help, the information about posting photos ![]()
Hi @ErmesT ,
Thank you for clarifying.
I hope that there would be more educational posts, that all of us can learn and to make Connect as better as possible.
