Posting legitimate photos to google maps.

Hi. Quick question. A feature in google maps “my contributions” keeps on asking me to post my photos. A lot are scenic views or arenas or exhibitions. Surly google does not want these posted. Is it best to skip them and stick to posting restaurants. Thanks Peter

You’re right @Peter_Broster , Maps checks your timeline and can suggest you upload your photos related to tourist activities or places based on your visits. Obviously not all of them are to be published, you need to choose only those that are useful for advising those who are looking for more information about them. However if you find this function too “insistent” or you usually choose the photos to be published, you can avoid these notices by acting directly on the Maps Settings: Menu - Settings - Notification (from then on it depends on the installed version, however here you find the option to disable this suggestion).

Hi Peter and have a good day!

Aha !!! Great news.

Thank you David. So I can turn the suggestions off. Brilliant because you are right, I do choose what to publish based on my own gut feelings of usefulness. Whilst I value google’s analyrical ability, I think I will turn them off. Many thanks. Petrr

Hi @Peter_Broster ,

Thanks for reaching out!

Regarding your inquiry, as @davidhyno kindly mentioned, you may check for to option to enable/disable the feature. (For further note, do feel free to check Add, remove, or share photos and videos)

Kudos for making sure to provide relevant contributions to Google Maps. : ]

For the moment, the current post would be relocated to How-tos, should that come in handy for Local Guides with similar direction of thoughts.

Thanks Sonny. I am glad to have raised an important issue. I am going to turn off the “suggestions” and only post what I feel is a valid photo contribution.

Hi @Peter_Broster ,

Thanks for sharing further! : ]

It would be indeed be important to check thoroughly when checking for photos to be uploaded to Google Maps.

You may also use the tagging system, with the “@” so that the name of a person you are forwarding the message will appear, as it also allows you to receive notification to follow up posts easily.
