It’s my days of achievements it seems. My achievements these days are really worth bragging about. They are rare ones too,not what every local guides on connect get. A year after the New Road editor on desktop tool was rolled out to us as local guides I have this to show. This tool was first announced last year at the 2021 guiding stars events
This is announcing that I have added 1000+ Roads on the maps using the New Road editor tool on desktop. I am therefore eligible to be a member of the 1k Road club. As far as I know the list is not full yet. My first inspiration about adding roads came from @JanVanHaverHow-to-get-rid-of-that-annoying-0-for-Roads-added . It’s a post worth reading if you haven’t done so already. My road adding career or innovation started from there.
Next comes Roads-in-Google-Maps-2000-roads-later I believe most local guides have seen that post. Anyways check it out please. That gave me the next and best push to add roads on the maps.
In general I don’t do this, but please excuse me to do this now. I’ll tag @ErmesT on this post,he was the first to add a thousand Roads apparently and should be our president for the 1K Road fun club.
Tips for adding roads using the New desktop tool taken from ErmesT’s post above.
It’s done only on desktop
The roads should be clearly visible on satellite mode on the maps
The Road should be connected to existing ones.
It’s mandatory to indicate what type of road it is E.g
Highway
Local Road
Biking/walking trail
Parking lot.
The aapproval rate has been very fast for me. If drawn correctly,I get approval within a few hours of adding them so everyday I get at least 30 approved roads easily. I added lots of roads in Brazil(South America) and in India as well, lastly in my own country Nigeria. There are thousands of roads to be added still. Please join us to make the maps better for all. Special invitation goes my fellow newest guiding stats 2022 and to a local guides entirely.
Have you difficulty adding roads? Do you need inspiration and further explanations on adding roads on the maps? Feel free to reachout to me and others who know about this. I’m available !!!
I know from personal experience (i.e. feedback from people after making edits) how much it can mean that a missing road is added to the map. So the fact that my post inspired you to begin this journey makes me very proud @SholaIB
You really deserve to be a 2022 Guiding Star, no doubt about that!
Kudos for being the first to reply on this post. Yes ! That’s not the first time I’m getting inspiration from you here on connect. You deserve to be be proud, get your head high up, as high as possible !
That’s impressive @SholaIB Great to hear that everyone is doing their own part of contribution. I have also mapped out more than 2,000km of road across different countries on my dashboard. Although i can’t see Brazil on my dashboard but i have added to Tanzania, Myanmar, South Africa, India, Nepal, Ethiopia, Nigeria, etc.
Thank you very much. I keep the contributions rolling and I see you are going towards the second mile of 2k Well-done. The year is ended now,I hope to hit 2k also perhaps sometime early next year DV
Congratulations to you as a double star guiding star again.
sorry for late reply end of the year activities has kept me quite busy. Thank you for stopping by to read the post and keep contributing voluntarily to the maps.
It surely helps others and yourself as well. Wish you more achievements too.
Wow !!! Nice comments and appreciation from a fellow guiding star is awesome,I like it and thank you kindly.
Yes I do so much on the maps because I use it so much as I travel around for my mission assignments. I don’t think I’ll like a Google job though too technical for my little mind
It’s easy to just contribute voluntarily quietly at my leisure time. Amazing that we are the same class of guiding star. Can’t forget our chats the days before the guiding stars were announced. I enjoyed it. Thank you for your comments buddy. Keep shinning.
I’m talking about roads directly on the maps though and it’s different from road mapper application. While the road mapper is not accounted for on our maps profile, these roads added are and I currently have about 1,393 roads drawn. If you check on my profile you’ll understand what I mean better.
It’s quite interesting and perhaps a wee bit technical as well. You can draw roads in any part of the world where road mapping is enabled and it becomes visible and live when it’s approved. I have gotten thousands of points on that of recent. At least 10,000 in a very short time few weeks.
I am deeply impressed @SholaIB . and sorry for being so late in responding to your great post.
However, this give me the opportunity to congratulate you twice:
First of all for entering in the 1K roads club
Second, for the others more than 550 roads approved in less than 3 weeks. This is the most impressive result, and looks like you are running fast to the 2K roads club.
I hope Google will create a badge for this, as an acknowledgement for this amazing activity. This will for sure inspire others to contribute
I have been very busy at work as well for the annual events and new year program and have been less active on connect.
A badge will be great if it comes otherwise the users are benefiting anyway. Thank you for the congratulations
Yes ! I’m getting on quite well on the roads and getting quite professional at it. I’ll be on the 2k list very soon I think. I’m wondering about us creating a list of Lgs that have added roads on the maps to inspire others and to create awareness as well like you mentioned.
Just like AdamGt on the photos . What do you think of that idea? I’m open to suggestions and criticisms etc.
Sorry for late reply, the problem is you didn’t tag me so I didn’t get a notification of your comment.
Here on connect you use the tagging tool “@” followed by the username of the recipient that gives or sends personal notification to the person in question and you can then get a reply accordingly. Tagging just like I did to yours above in blue prints.
Thank you for commenting on this post. You can also draw roads like me to help improve the maps. Feel free to reachout for inquiries. Happy Mapping and guiding.
