is there a way to filter posts? For example, in the local stories section, I would like to filter for posts in my city. How can I do that without doing a search which pulls up results from all of the categories?

At the moment is is not possible to select a filter like the one suggested by you, but if I remember correctly there is some post on Idea Exchange, like this one

@ZigT the feature you request is indeed not there now, as @ErmesT pointed out, but it might be there soon. A couple of weeks ago there was a preview of something new: a section on the Connect homepage that filters the post according to the location. It might have been switched on by accident, as it was gone after a few hours, but the comment from the Googlers was that this was a feature that would be available soon.
