Poor Video Quality

Hei guys, So I uploaded this video of Croatia’s National Park as a contribution on Google Maps but it looks really bad.

The video is 1080p filmed with Nexus 6P and it looks stunning. (Video: MPEG4 Video (H264) 1920x1080 29.799fps 6286kbps [V: h264 high L4.0, yuv420p, 1920x1080, 6286 kb/s])

Video File on Google Drive: https://goo.gl/gYCZ5V (you have to download it to view it on its best quality)

Google Photos: https://photos.app.goo.gl/yq4iCSP1R5Xhcyra2

Google Maps Review: https://goo.gl/maps/uF1UuZ5EYt22 (the video is the first on top, it has 0:29s)

Maybe someone can have a look and tell me if I have to wait for Google to process it properly or this is just some limitation/bug on their part.

Thank you

Hello @intranca ,

The video that you have posted is great!

That is a very beautiful place that you have filmed.

You can check this topic for some answers.

There a lot of helpful comments and questions.

When the video feature was introduced, there was no mention of any adaptive quality.

According to this help center article the accepted video resolution is:

1920 x 1080.

My guess is that at the time of upload the internet connection was poor and the video quality was reduced.

Thanks!

Georges

HI @GeorgesHR I also experienced quality loss: https://goo.gl/maps/ekoUchQJ7Dn

Thanks for the answers

Please pay a little attention to this post, the question has been asked before by intranca in this post right here.

The problem with that the answer didn’t really help or provide a real solution to the problem. I’m not trying to be rude since GeorgesHR was simply trying to help the community.

I use a Galaxy S9+ to record videos and images in the highest quality it allows me to. I usually wait to get back home to upload my videos so I can be connected to the Wi-Fi while I’m doing so.

The videos are recorded in 1080p 60fps, usually 5-15 seconds in length. After uploading them, the quality drops to what seems to be 240p or even 144p.

I’ve tried recording the videos directly on the review by selecting my camera option but it won’t allow me to record there. Any ideas?

Hey @AndreGadelha ,

Thanks for reaching out!

No offence taken, unfortunately I do not have additional information for you apart from what I have already said.

To keep consistency I will move your topic there. Please feel free to reply and discuss further.

3 years after this post and I still have the same problems.
According to Google, videos must meet the following limitations: 30 seconds maximum length, 75 MB maximum weight, and 720P or higher.

I am trying to upload a video that meets those requirements and as you have commented the quality is horrible when playing it, it seems 144p or even less.
