Pointers to Excel as a Local Guide

To all the newly arrived local guides on the scene, I’m posting a guide for how to be a magnificent local guide.
First of all a little something about this community, Google Local Guides is a community that collaboratively shares in Google Maps information about places users visit.
Being a local guide is a lot of things. A local guide is considered to be the backbone of Google Maps and also, so for the people. To be a local guide is a proud feeling and the journey is even amazing.
To excel as a local guide you need to have a checklist and agenda on how to help maps and local businesses grow.
Being a local guide gives power to share, review, update a lot of major information, which further helps the economy.
Contributing regularly is what is important.
Reviewing a location must be true to its essence. Reviews must always be honest and an in depth view of any such destination or things. Reviews hold major outcome. Also rating must be done considering all the factors at once so that it benefits the business/ helps people.
Now moving on to uploading images, all the photographs must be ‘topic related’ images impacts the most as visual presentation is always necessary. Images helps people understand the location without even going there. Before uploading any such image make sure the following image is your best shot and displays the location well. Pictures on Google Maps are everything.
Along with reviewing and uploading images update facts on a regular basis. Verify facts. Updating facts helps google improvise a lot of things. Facts are the proof of present day situation. Updating facts is a must.
And most importantly add missing places to google maps so that the business is introduced to others and for growth purposes.
Contributing in such many ways, google provides you hell lot a points and badges which is a big achievement itself.

For how to contribute even better on Maps make sure you’re contributing high quality images (360 Degree as well) and make reviews easy to understand. Contribute on a regular basis and aim for the prosper of Maps.
Along with contributing on Maps make sure you contribute on Local Guides Connect as well, share your knowledge, experience, tips and ideas so fellow local guides can be guided as well.
Google maps also provides several perks and gifts to extraordinary local guides as a reward. Google maps is a next generation product and holds capacity nothing like other. Gaining points, jumping levels up is a motivation for all the locals guides.
Google recognises local guides in many ways and every congratulatory email from google makes me proud as a local guide and a helpful individual. Becoming a local guide is all about helping in all possible ways.
At last Kudos to all the local guides and the community for making a lot of things possible for people in need of it.

Thank you.

@RiyaM thank you for this post. Today I was thinking about reviewing process, how to make it honest and fair at the same time, what are key guidelines to keep in mind. And I came to the kind of similar conclusion - honest and detailed review and pictures is the key. But as a newbie in this process I keep thinking how to make my contribution better

Hi @sinusoida ,

I just wanted to let you know that I removed the accepted solution from your reply, because it doesn’t answer any question or doesn’t solve any issue you might have. The purpose of this feature is to help Local Guides find answers when searching on the Connect. Please take a look at Tip: How to mark replies as solutions — “Accept as Solution” feature article.
