Please update my display name Shashonami to Shamsur Rahman

Subject: Urgent: Display Name Not Updating for Weeks

Hello Moderators,
My Google Account name was changed to “Shamsur Rahman” weeks ago.
But my Local Guides Connect profile still shows “Shashonami”.

Google Account Email: shashon1989@gmail.com
Google Account Name: Shamsur Rahman [Screenshot attached]

I need this fixed urgently for Google Maps Reporter Program verification.

Please manually update my display name.
Thank you from Rajshahi, Bangladesh.

Your user name on Connect can be updated under Preferences then Account.

Your Maps profile name is decided under your Google Account Settings.

But we now have an option to select a Custom Display name in Google Maps. Open your profile. Then Edit profile. At the top you see this:

There is no service to get this done for you.

If you need more help. Please specify which of the 3 usernames you wish to change, and what you have tried so far.

I wonder what the Google Maps Reporter Program is. Please share a link.

Thank you so much @MortenCopenhagen for your quick reply :folded_hands:

I have updated my Custom Display Name to “Shamsur Rahman” in Google Maps and also updated my Connect profile name.

Now both my Google Account and Local Guides profile have the same name.

Can I now re-apply for the Reporter Program?

Thank you again.

Please tell me about the Reporter program. Do you mean LGR?

Thank you for your reply @MortenCopenhagen :folded_hands:

I mean the “Local Guides Reporter Program” - the monthly reporting program where Local Guides write articles and reports on Connect.

I have now updated my Display Name to “Shamsur Rahman” in both Google Maps and Connect profile.

Can I please re-apply for the Local Guides Reporter Program?

Thank you.

Thanks. I’m not familiar with what you mean. Anyone signed up on Connect can write monthly articles or daily articles if you wish.

Were you expecting some compensation for this?

Thank you for your reply @MortenCopenhagen :folded_hands:

I am talking about the “Local Guides Reporter Program” where Local Guides volunteer to write articles on Connect. This is not for compensation.

I will also update my Display Name to match my real name soon.

Can I please re-apply for the Reporter Program?

Thank you.

Hi @MortenCopenhagen

I have updated my Display Name to “ShamsurRahman”.

Could you please send me the application link for the Local Guides Reporter Program?

Thank you so much!

I tried to tell you that I have never heard of that program. And I asked you for information about it. Could is be a thing organized by your fellow Indian Local Guides. I’m tagging @TravellerG. Maybe he knows something.

If you care to improve your Maps Contributions just let me know. I think you overlooked some guidelines.

Subject: Re: Reporter Program & Maps Contribution

Hello Morten,

Thank you so much for your reply and for tagging @TravellerG.

The “Reporter Program” I mentioned is not an official Google program. It’s a local initiative started by some Local Guides in Bangladesh to motivate new contributors and share news about places. That’s why you haven’t heard of it.

I sincerely apologize if I caused any confusion.

And yes, I would really love your guidance to improve my Maps contributions. If I have overlooked any guidelines, please let me know so I can correct them and contribute better.

Thanks again for your support.

Best regards,

Shamsur Rahman

Happy to hear more about the Bangladesh project. I recall such projects being active and helpful preparation for applications for upcoming live events where posting on Connect was a requirement. I have met people at Live events who knew nothing about Connect. So this requirement is not always enforced 100%.

I will respond later regarding guideline tips.

Again, please remove your email address from the top post in this discussion. This is to protect your privacy.

One way to check the health of your contributions is to calculate how many of them are public.

You have made 504 photos+videos, and only 478 are currently public. So 26 of your media havebeen taken down by the spam filters.

You have written 84 reviews, but currently only 73 of them are public. So 11 of your reviews have been taken down by the spam filters.

Let me point out some of the guideline violations you made.

You wrote this review 9 hours ago:

https://maps.app.goo.gl/5sUUrmQDCGUT6Y8g7

The photos you attached all have a caption that is the name of the place. This is not helpful. If you want to add captions, please do not add redundant information.

You have added the same photos more than once. This is a violation that can get you kicked from the Local Guides program. Also, adding redundant/similar photos is a violation. You have 3 photos of a guy lying outside the entrance.

Some of your photos are taken against the light. This makes them look hazy and very low quality. Notice how the photo quality is much better in the photo with the cobblestones.

Not having an expensive phone can be compensated for by doing a quick edit in Google Photos. Check this photo of yours that I improved in Google Photos for you.

Some photos are out of focus, so they can not be rescued like this one. Holding your phone perfectly still and having the light behind you might do the trick.

Now, to your review text (in English).

> Chaora Bazar Jame Masjid. This place falls in the Saidpur Thana Nilphamari district. From this place, it is very easy to go to Nilphamari. And from here, it is very easy to travel to Saidpur. The mosque here is very beautifully arranged. There is ablution room here, and there is also a good toilet facility.

The first three lines are redundant information about the location of the hospital. Google Maps does a much better job of helping people find the place.

Only the last two sentences are about your opinion and experience with the place. The review could be better if you shared more details from your visit.

Having recognizable faces in your photos should also be avoided.

Maybe some photos from inside the hospital would be more interesting.

At this beauty store, you uploaded 3 much better photos. Do you have more than one phone? If so, please always use the one with the best camera. I noticed this photo. Why did you blur out some of the trees?

You generally seem to upload the same photos more than once and to different places. They all need to be deleted.

I’m happy to see that you actually can take good photos.

All the best

Hello Sir,
I am Shamsur Rahman.
I tried to hide my phone number and alternative email but Google does not allow it now due to new policy.
Could you please hide them from your admin panel and approve my account?
Thank you Sir.

Alhamdulillah! I’m happy to share that my Local Guides profile name has been updated.

Thank you so much Google Local Guides Team

Well done.

Since this relates to your previous post, I will merge the two to keep Connect organized.
