Places which definitely still do exist get deleted (instead of e. g. just merging several entries)

Hi all together,

I noticed a very peculiar thing on Google maps which I just don’t understand.

There is a place. It did exist and it still does. It maybe has more than one entry (which clearly should be merged), but in the end I don’t know for sure.

All of a sudden the entry which is known to me (because I uploaded pics, e. g.) is deleted and my pics now belong to an ‘unknown place’.

This happened just this very week to the ‘Cuxhaven beach’ in Northern Germany. The ‘old’ entry (where a picture I had uploaded was the ‘featured’ one and had already gained nearly half a mio views) was deleted.

I searched through maps to find that it’s got a new one. But why weren’t these two entries just merged? Why was one of them deleted? Did it have too many fake reviews / stupid pictures /… ??

This is really confusing :sunglasses:

The same thing happened to a carpool at an autobahn exit in southern Germany earlier. In that case, I had to re-create it myself. I hope that link will work :rofl:

It can take a few weeks for pics to show up correctly after a merge operation. So please give it some time.

How many weeks does it usually take? It’s approx. eight weeks now and they still say ‘unknown place’.

What’s peculiar, this pic is still receiving a notable number of new views.

View count was just under 441k when the Cuxhaven beach entry was deleted and is now above 443k.

OK this is just another weird thing about Google maps in Germany especially if it’s about merging duplicates.

‘Normally’ just nothing happens for months or even years, in that case they deleted an entry. All right …
