Places to visit in Nepal

Nepal is one of the best touristic destinations in the world. Nepal is a small country of total area 187,181 square kilometers. Altitude in Nepal ranges from 49 meters in the south to 8,848 meters in the north which is the height of the highest mountain peak in the world. There are several places to visit in Nepal.

Kathmandu

Kathmandu is the capital city of Nepal. You can witness various religious and historical places including the famous temple Pashupatinath temple, Swayambhunath Bouddha Bihar, Chandragiri Mountain View point, and a lot of places included in UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can enjoy Nepalese foods in Kathmandu like Mo:mo.

How to reach?

The only international airport, TIA is located in Kathmandu so no worries.

Mount Everest

Nepal is a mountainous country because more than 75% of the total area are mountains. Mount Everest is the highest peak in the world called Sagarmatha in Nepali and Tshomolungma in Tibet. Some parts of Mount Everest lies in Tibet as well. The height of Mount Everest is 8,848 meters from the sea level.

How to reach?

From TIA, it will take 35 minutes to reach Lukla Airport. It will be 6-10 hours trek from Lukla to reach Namche Bazaar, the Everest base camp. Way long trekking to Mount Everest. There will be volunteers and Sherpa guides for you. Homestay and hotels will be available upto Kalapatthar (height 5643 meters).

Pokhara

Pokhara is well known for the famous lakes, Phewa, Rupa and Begnas and the adventurous skydiving from Sarankot.

How to reach?

Either a flight from Kathmandu or by a bus.

Tilicho Lake

Tilicho lake is the world highest altitude lake at an altitude of 4,919 meters.

How to reach?

From Kathmandu go to Manang, Chame or from Pokhara to Chame. Then take a taxi to Khangsar. A 3-6 hours trek is all you can reach there.

Illam

Illam is famous for tea garden and cheese. The view of mountain ranges including the third highest mountain peak in the world, Mount Kanchenjunga is spectacular. The early sunrise from Pashupatinagar is another valuable thing to watch.

How to reach?

From Kathmandu fly to Biratnagar and by bus go to Illam. By bus you can go directly from Kathmandu to Illam.

Lumbini

Lumbini is the birthplace of Lord Gautam Buddha.

How to reach?

Either direct flight from Kathmandu or by bus.

Mount Kanchenjunga

The third highest mountain peak in the world is of altitude 8,586 meters.

How to reach?

It’s quite difficult to get there directly. You need to go to Biratnagar airport from Kathmandu and then take a direct bus to Taplejung. There is trekking route from Taplejung to Kanchenjunga.

Mustang

Mustang is called the desert of Nepal. But it’s spectacular adventurous journey crossing the mountains.

How to reach?

Direct flight or by bus from Pokhara.

Arun Valley

The deepest valley in the world at an altitude of 3500 meters between two high mountain peaks situated in Sankhuwasabha District of Eastern Nepal. The Makalu-Barun National Park, near Arun Valley is famous for various kinds of flowers like Rhododendrons, butterflies, birds like Pheasant or Lophophorous and animals like Red Panda.

How to reach?

Flight from Kathmandu to Tumlingtaar. A taxi ride to Seduwa. A trekking of 10-15 hours leads to Arun Valley.

Chitwan

Chitwan is famous for Chitwan National Park elephant ride jungle safari. Endangered species animals like Bengal Tigers, One horned rhinos, Elephants are kept in the National Park.

How to reach?

Direct flight from Kathmandu or by bus.

There are other places to visit as well including waterfalls, lakes rivers, mountains, etc. So I want to give an Invitation to all local guides to visit Nepal once in a life time.

Do you yourself live in Nepal? It’s one of those must-destinations in my opinion. I can’t wait to go there some day.
