Places to Visit: Bridge of Lies, Sibiu, Romania

I am not from Romania but there are certain places where I absolutely adore coming back to. This town is one of them just because of it’s historical landmarks.
The Bridge of Lies is a structure in Sibiu with an interesting concept and history. I also love the view of it. But that’s another story for another time. This small bridge, at a small square connects the lower and the upper part of the town. There’s no surprise that it was made of iron and most of it still stands on this material. All the elements are like a Gothic jigsaw puzzle but with solid structure. I tried jumping with the hope to make it vibrate. Nope, it’s safe!

You will notice that the shield of the old Sibiu fort is implemented in the bridge decoration which will mean that it’s definitely old. Each of the historical landmarks has that crest on it’s decoration. That’s not because of the tourists. It’s because of the tradition in Transylvania. Yup, the place is part of the Transylvanian folklore and trust me, no vampire has been born on that bridge. Ask the locals ?

The name of this bridge comes from the urban legend - which is true, in fact, that there was a market placed on the bridge and merchants lied their clients about the quality and price of everything they offer. What the selling basically does ? When the market was closed, lovers used to confess love and offer their hearts one another but almost every couple meeting on this bridge ended up with a split because of a lie. So romantic, isn’t it?! It still proves the name of this bridge.
Be sure to come during the golden hour if you are a photographer. You will get marvelous photos. I wasn’t so lucky with the weather and light but internet is full of photos with that condition.
The Bridge of Lies is located at the town square and the basics to come are - arrive at the square and walk. You can feel free to follow Google Maps to this point which basically is the bridge location. Many cars are driving under the bridge but I couldn’t find any nearby stops of the local transport. Even car hire is not an option. You will need to walk here. And that’s not a lie!

For those who have seen this place, feel free to share a lie you heard on the bridge or about it. A photo or two will be appreciated. For those who haven’t seen the place or been here, questions are welcome. Hopefully, we can get the answers … or make them up ?
