My parents are travelers, so thanks to them I also love to travel and fill my mind with wonderful memories.
Usually those memories are accompanied by mealtime, because it’s when you talk that you like a trip, that you don’t like it, that you were surprised and that it didn’t happen as you expected. So not only is it nice to share places to visit, but it is also wonderful to describe places to eat, where you share not only the food but a good talk accompanied by laughter and experiences.
What have I discovered when I share places on Google Maps? That the most viewed photos and the most popular recommendations are those I make of places to eat and I love to know that thanks to my recommendations and photos someone was encouraged to visit the place. For example, this is my most viewed photo… one I took of Mariscos el Gordo in Guadalajara Jalisco and it was that I realized that the photos I upload can help others to choose where to eat.
How do I discover these places? Two ways: 1) I ask people who live in the city I’m visiting where they would go to eat, it doesn’t matter that it’s not popular with tourists. The other way I discover places is thanks to the photos and recommendations that others leave on Google Maps, and not only I look at the stars, I also read what they say, and what dishes they like, see their pictures, etc.
For example, in San Miguel Allende thanks to Google Maps I discovered this place called Mi Bistro 300, which is just a few blocks from downtown and where the food was delicious and we spent a very pleasant afternoon after walking all morning through that beautiful town.
So sharing on Google Maps my experiences (especially of places to eat) is a kind of returning the favor to others who also share their tips on Google Maps and is also a way to share the tips of people who live in that city and who may know very cool places, but who are not in the habit of adding their opinions to Google Maps. Like for example this photo that I shared of the best place in Mexico to eat pozole that is in Zacatecas and that is also one of the most popular photos that I have uploaded.
That’s why I like to share photos of places to eat on Google Maps, and I hope to discover and share many more places in the future.
