I’ve had a submission for a “historical landmark” rejected multiple times. It’s a ruined medieval settlement. The place is marked by notice boards (which I’ve posted photos of), it’s cited multiple times on the internet – so why is my submission being rejected over and over?
Hi @steegee
There could be many reasons.
Please see
Creative use of categories could be the issue. “Landmark” might be an overstatement.
Your track record is also taken into account when the faith if new places get decided. Repeated attempts can be interpreted as spam.
Best if luck

What else am I supposed to call it? It literally is a historical landmark.
It would be very helpful if you would use the tagging tool when replying to someone here on Connect. Type @ followed by the username. Type slowly. Then we get an e-mail notification and you are more likely to get a prompt reply. Just hitting Reply does not ensure we get notified by email.
A purpose of the list of categories is to guide us in what can be mapped and what can not. If the correct and specific category is not available this is Google Maps’ way of saying “No thanks” this should not be added to the map.
Looking at the website you shared it looks like a ruin.
I interpret Landmark as something major, highly visible, helpful in navigation, and/or well know to many.
Historic landmarks should have huge significance, often be created to commemorate something important.
Sometimes the category Sculpture can substitute Landmark if an artist created it. Cultural Landmark is sometimes used for significant street art / murals. But it does not fit well here either.
So my conclusion is that it should not be added. Maybe category expert @JanVanHaver has a better suggestion.
Cheers
Morten
PS I have experienced quite a bit of frustration due to the list of categories and how it is biased towards American culture. And it is very difficult to motivate Google to add more and new categories.
Thanks for the tag @MortenCopenhagen
@steegee there is also the category ‘Heritage preservation’ that might fit here.
