Pink moon on a Good Friday in suburban Manila

I spent Good Friday in my maternal relative’s ancestral home in Pateros, Metro Manila where an image of the dead Jesus Christ is kept.

Locally known as Santo Entierro, the icon is carried from a century-old house to its “carosa” (carriage) for the Good Friday Catholic procession all over town. The relic is owned by the Concio and Rosales families. It was acquired in the middle of 1900’s by public school teacher Matea Rosales-Concio from a family friend the name of “Teria.”

From then on, a pabasa (passion of Christ) is held every holy week highlighted by the procession of the Santo entierro on holy Wednesday and good Friday.
