Dr Khalid Al Sulaiti, General Manager of Katara Cultural Village, tweeted on his official handle: “The Pigeon Towers will be demolished at dawn on Wednesday, February 16, (2022) to renovate as per higher engineering standards.”
These magnificent Islamic architecture are next to the Katara mosque.
They were designed to collect pigeon droppings, which was used as a fertilizer for farming. A design dating back to several milennia, these towers can provide housing for thousands of pigeons.
