Picture not present in a place but still have a view count

Hi all, not sure if this is the right place to ask for this issue.

I have a strange case with a GMaps page of a company on which I uploaded some pictures. The pictures has a views count but if I open the Gmaps page of this company the pictures are not present. Hereunder an example with a 430 views picture: if I click on the company name the GMpas page has been opened but I cannot find picture (only the pictures uploaded by owner).

What is in your opinion the problem?

Thank you for your tips in advance!

Ciao @RiccyB

As far as I can see, EDIT, the company, that is claimed, made a choice not to have photos uploaded by Local Guides.

In fact, the add a photo button is not available on the listing in Maps

Can you please share a link to the photo, to see if it is publicly visible?

Thank you

Hi @RiccyB

I see the same thing some times. The reason can be that pictures uploaded to a place inside a city is automatically inherited by the city. Try go look at your city’s listing and show Photos. That is where your pictures can get some unexpected views. There might even be a “By me” “folder”.

Cheers

@ErmesT how would a business be able to do that? I have never seen a setting in GMB to control this.

Thanks @JanVanHaver , you are right.

I did a quick check ok the GMB help page, and a business don’t have that option.

I edited my post.

Btw, this is strange. It seems Google locked that option (even if an add a photo button still available when entering on the Photos tab)

@ErmesT

The add photo option is both available on my mobile as well as my desktop. When you click on ALL the photos, it currently shows one more photo then when you click on the filter to show only photos by the owner.

@RiccyB his photos are public, because when I went to his Google Maps profile I was able to find his pictures related to this POI. Here is a link to one of them:

Here is a screen-shot from my PC:

To me, it looks more like a bug.

As you can see, there is an Add Photo option on my phone…

I did exactly what @JeroenM wrote…I add the picture by add picture button.

@ErmesT here the link to the picture: https://goo.gl/maps/4hF4nJVDdUeb3nAH8

Really strange from my side because it never happened with different places

But that option has been available in the past in GMB @ErmesT ? I came across references to that in the past and was always wondering what they were talking about.

There definitely seems to be “things in motion” here, as I can now also see the Add Photo button on the POI, both on desktop and on Android.

Great catch @JeroenM , I definitely agree about the bug.

Tagging @sonnyNg for checking.

I agree, the photo button is available in mobile, even if in desktop on my side I can only see the button when clicking on the “photos” section, but not on the main page of the listing. @JanVanHaver

I agree about the possible bug, or a new layout improvement rolling out.

A similar issue has been reported here. In this case the issue is present in all the public offices, but not in other kind of business

Thank you for your support @ErmesT !

Hi @RiccyB ,

Thanks for reaching out to the community! : ]

Regarding the issue, would the same occurrence happen with other POIs that you have previously uploaded photos to?

Much appreciated from @ErmesT for having me mentioned, as well as @MortenCopenhagen , @JeroenM and @JanVanHaver for having checked thoroughly.

In the meantime, I will make sure to have this instance investigated.

Hi @sonnyNg it’s the first time I’m facing this problem. According to my experience all the pictures I upload in Maps are visible in their page.

The strange thing is that yesterday the picture had 430 views, today it’s more than 500.

Thank you

@JanVanHaver & @ErmesT & @sonnyNg

I just came across a business where my pictures don’t stick. But they get views (probably from the city listings). I can kind of understand why a GAY shop would like haters not to be able to spam their site with bad pictures. My picture was just a beautiful well-exposed night photo of their store front. The add picture icon and link to do so are still visible. Here is the link:

Could it be that the picture block is due to the erotic nature of the place?

I really would like to know if GMB somehow allows denial of pictures being posted by map users.

@MortenCopenhagen I don’t think is possible. Have a look of this link where people discussed about the same point: https://support.google.com/business/thread/1858100?hl=en

Thanks, @RiccyB .

It sure looks convincing in the link you provided. Thanks.

I hope @sonnyNg will be able to explain what us going on.

Cheers

Hi @RiccyB , @MortenCopenhagen ,

Thank you for the further checking!

I will make sure to follow up with any updates.

Hi @sonnyNg , another funny fact that maybe help you.

This morning Maps propose me as contribute to decide which picture is useful to describe the POI we are discussing of and one of the pictures is exactly the one I put in my first message.

Hi friends,

I tried posting this photo:

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/p/AF1QipPswfcuWf4wHGq9UkiqeJhkHbI47kHMaFjKqzlp=w750-h401-p-k-no

To this point of interest :

https://maps.app.goo.gl/VmJneCjwAMkDVuR7A

twice.

But it does not show up under the restaurant. I took two pictures of the place. And the other one is shown just fine. The pic is not really made private because it gets views.

Could it be that my Pic resembles an other one too much? Never seen that before. Any ideas?

PS the resolution is not an issue in the original file.
