Does anybody also has experience of what might be a bug with photos views statistics, or explain what this happens?
On my views statistic, there is one photo that appears two times at the same date with two different view counts (2724 and 83741!). The second view count is so huge that it seems totally unreal, what makes me think about a possible bug…
I’m curious to know why this happens…
When the same photo is shown twice you uploaded it two times. Probably not on purpose, because Google Maps sometimes suggests us to upload photos that we already uploaded.
You will need to delete one of them. I would delete the one with fewer views.
When a photo gets a ton of views it is because your photo was selected as the cover photo. Cover photos get shown a lot more than other photos.
I just checked the restaurant whole photo set and my review, and the strange thing is there is no duplicate of the photo.
My only photo posted in my review is actually selected as Cover like you thought, but then I can’t explain the duplicate with fewer views that appears in my statistics…
OK obviously I know everyone can see the duplicate as I can, but that doesn’t explain me where does it come from, and more important, why only one of then appears in the photo set of this place!.. I can admit to have uploaded it two times by mistake as you said (once in my review and once for the place photo gallery… but I’m pretty sure I didn’t), but the photo would then appear two times in the gallery, right?
Besides, I have now deleted the duplicate (with the lowest views), what I could do from my account gallery (where you pointed out the duplictae in your screenshot), and I can see no change in the place content: Photo still there as cover AND in my review… So I only can wonder where was the photo I just deleted
OK things are all right now, but the whole story didn’t help me to understand where came the issue from (I always like to now the root cause of every strange thing ).

It would be very helpful if you would use the tagging tool when replying to someone here on Connect. Type @ followed by the username. Type slowly. Then we get an e-mail notification and you are more likely to get a prompt reply. Just hitting Reply does not ensure we get notified by email.
I browse my photo contributions regularly to remove such issues. I guess we will never know how you accidentally uploaded two copies of the same image.
